We want to take a moment to highlight the valor of Medal of Honor recipient U.S. Army Captain Florent Groberg. Yesterday was his “Alive Day”, something he’s coined to remember his miraculous survival after he sacrificed his body to save his comrades in Afghanistan from a suicide bomber. On Aug. 8, 2012, in Afghanistan's Kunar Province, Captain Groberg spotted a suicide bomber approaching his patrol, rushed and tackled him away from his team—causing the vest to detonate prematurely and saving many lives, though he lost part of his leg and suffered severe injuries. Kids, look up to his valor: it shows true heroism is selflessly protecting others, even at great personal cost! “This is how we know what love is: Jesus Christ laid down his life for us. And we ought to lay down our lives for our brothers and sisters.” – 1 John 3:16

@LauraLoomer Oh boy… Thirteen years ago today is my Alive Day, the day I nearly lost my life, and four of my brothers, including three Army leaders, never came home. I’ve served under presidents from both parties and will always honor my oath to this country. Yes, I spoke for 60 seconds at the DNC when asked about service and sacrifice, not politics. For me, 8/8 isn’t about parties. It’s about the lives we lost.
