The only people with access to the server itself are the staff of the hosting provider. But of course since mastodon itself doesn't end-to-end encrypt direct messages, don't use it for sensitive communication.

I got a good question about server and data security. While I'm a developer by training and know my way around a server, the instance is hosted by a professional mastodon hosting provider in Germany using German data centers.
