@8th_block @bilal_akh What if I told both of you that regardless of who is in power, the people behind these crimes will continue to operate as degenerates and despite this, Toronto remains relatively safe overall

@bilal_akh 2 full years & part of a 3d are not the whole picture. It show a recent decline in selected indicators not a stat established mayoral effect. A fair comparison would use the same pop-adjusted measures across every rolling 3-year period under both mayors-not a chosen baseline.

@8th_block Pretty sure it’s a trend if it’s true for all years except the very first, and true for indicators beyond just homicides (also true for auto thefts and assaults, and unrelated: encampments down too) That’s the whole picture. You can ignore it, but the numbers are clear.

In the 2002 documentary Bowling For Columbine, director Michael Moore walked around Toronto & noticed no one was locking their doors. 24 years later the city & its attitude now look unrecognizable. Do you think all their doors are still unlocked? 🧐

@bilal_akh You missed my point completely. I can cherry-pick statistics all day & make either mayor look good or bad. As the old saying goes “Figures don’t lie, but liars figure”not as a personal accusation just a reminder of how selectively stats can be presented.

@DrMichaelBonner my impression it's most about israel and solidarity with arabs. i don't explore it in detail as i don't really have many muslim friends or acquaintances as an adult. but it was kind of in the background all around as a kid...

when i was a kid i was around a lot of muslims (since my parents are). i don't miss the obsession with israel. mind you, they weren't arabs, it was kind of a pro forma hatred. but boy did they hate israel...israel and the jews, israel and the jews, israel and the jews...

I finally added the thing everyone kept asking for: OpenMed models now run in your browser and on Android, via ONNX. 🔥 Watch it de-identify a clinical note fully on-device: 19 identifiers gone, 0 bytes leaving the machine. No server, no API. What should run on-device next?

@UniverseIce It is not some DIY and it is a simple adaptation of the existing good gun for a different use. It works very well but just like any machinery it comes with a hefty manual that if not followed it can be deadly

These two guys are definitely having nightmares tonight. Basically, this Russian training accident happened because someone took a rotary machine gun from a helicopter and treated it like a normal ground gun. The YakB-12.7 was originally made for the Mi-24 attack helicopter. It has brutal recoil, and the forces it produces are nothing like a regular machine gun. On a helicopter, the airframe and mount can absorb that madness. But once you slap it onto a simple ground setup, it suddenly develops a personality. You think you’re controlling the gun, then it starts controlling you.
