This story is actually insane. The police picked up a 16 yr old girl that was kidnapped by Omar (the guy Shiloh Hendrix insulted) and his brother at a gas station. They raped her for two days. She was found "sleep-deprived, dehydrated, and had not eaten recently" according to the nurse that examined her. They found her glasses in their trailer. She identified them perfectly in a lineup. Then, in the middle of the case, prosecutors discretely dropped charges with no explanation and no oversight. "In the interest of justice," they said. This was just one month before the Shiloh Hendrix incident. During the Shiloh Hendrix trial, we find out that Omar's son, who is actually 9 even though it was claimed he was 5, already wears a ankle monitor because his father lets him wander off and steal things. As is expected, the father has faced no consequences for this. In Minnesota, a single word is worse than kidnapping and raping a young girl. Two Somalian men abducted a young, vulnerable girl, then were shielded by the government and faced zero consequences. Personally, I think the charges were dropped to avoid their deportation. On the flip side, a productive member of society gets probation, a jail sentence, and 200 hours of community service over a single word, with no violence involved in any way. We can't live like this. We can't live in a country where foreigners are above the law, yet get to twist the law into a weapon against productive American citizens.

A human being who creates something inspires. A machine that creates something similar does *not* inspire. Seeing another human being achieve things strikes a chord because it opens the door to the possibilities of humans. Yours and everyone else's. A machine takes that away.

I think maybe the worst people on the internet are the folks that do the video in public for no reason other than to "exercise their 1st Amendment rights", but really do it aggressively to ragebait people and business owners. Group of masked idiots at the post office harassed a lady from our office and had her like shaking. Calling her names and such for asking why they had a camera in her face. Just saw The Odyssey. Despite what you may have heard, literally all of the criticisms by conservatives were entirely correct. The movie is just as woke as you fear, if not more so. The DEI casting is atrocious. Completely takes you out of the story right from the beginning. But even worse than that is Nolan’s decision to turn Odysseus into an anachronistic whiney, solemn shell of a man plagued by “trauma” and guilt. It’s impossible to overlook these flaws because the film itself is not terribly entertaining or well constructed. For the most part it is disjointed, dull, self-serious, disenchanted, somehow feeling both verbose and overly rushed at the same time. The dialogue is some of the worst I’ve ever heard in a “critically acclaimed” film. “On the nose” and “clunky” are descriptions that can’t even begin to describe this script. At no point in the story does Nolan ever transport the audience to the ancient world. You never feel like you’re 3,000 years in the past. You feel like you’re watching modern Americans put on a pageant, because you are. Nobody would be calling this thing a masterpiece if it was made by a director not named Christopher Nolan.

Over 10 million less people went to see The Odyssey in theatres on opening weekend than went to see Nolan's Dark Knight movies (which were both very good) Deadpool and Wolverine another R rated movie also had 10 million more people see it just two years ago. The propaganda propping up The Odyssey is falling apart.

Emily Wilson's 2017 translation is the credited basis for Christopher Nolan's Odyssey script. Now that the film has made $260M worldwide, she's telling the AP it left her unsatisfied. Her specific complaints: Zeus and Poseidon cut from the screen entirely, "incoherent" messaging that condemns both war and cowardice, and a Penelope so thinned out it endangers "any possibility of believing in this marriage." If the translator whose work built the script doesn't recognize the marriage at the center of it, what did the adaptation actually keep?

@MashTunTimmy The reality is that Nolan has sucked for some time now. Tenet, Inception, etc all sucked. He's overrated.

My review of Nolan's Odyssey: It is just not good. I'm willing to accept he's going to make changes, but even as a blockbuster action movie it still fails. It doesn't feel big and full of immersing detail. Somehow, it just reads as small and low budget. The Laestrygonian scene is a great example of this. In the poem, they have a massive civilized city with a calm harbor and Odysseus wisely decides to anchor his boat out to sea while his troops all take the bait. They encounter a massive giant child and then the Laestrygonians proceed to eat his men and rain boulders down on their ships. Nolan instead has the crew land, run into a regular sized child and then get chased comically through the woods by armor wearing giants who read as 7 ft tall, not massive giants. The whole scene is over in 5 minutes and has little drama or flare. The cyclops scene was cool. The puppet worked, it read as horror and felt terrifying. Unfortunately it was all downhill from there. Each time the crew landed the scenes felt small and fast. Land, get wooped, run away. We don't see Odysseus' famous cunning or reason on display. His character as a whole lacked real depth and charisma. I preffered Ralph Fiennes depiction in The Return to Matt Damon's. The rest of the acting outside of Pattinson was competant, but not interesting. Pattinson is the only one who really held a scene. Nolan completelly desexualized Odysseus, we never see him bed Cerces or Calypso. I suspect this is to allow him to still read as sympathetic character for modern audiences, but it's just another example of the disenchantement of the adaptation as a whole. Culture war/woke casting - whatever, it didn't bother me, it is what it is. I treated it like I was watching a play and was able to suspend disbelief well enough. The costumes were as bad as everyone feared. For a period movie you want to be immersed in a detailed world, but Nolan was not interested in that aspect at all. The Laestrygonianss costumes were especially horrible, especially the child they encounter. It really looked like he was wearing a halloween costume. Battles across the board were terrible, practically zero cool fight scenes even in large battles. The build up to the slaying of the suitors was so huge, yet the fight dragged on way too long and the bow/sword play was laughable. You don't get he sense that Odysseus is a great warrior, in fact it's the opposite as Matt Damon limply swings an axe around in a campy fashion. Even as a blockbuster action movie there is just very little re-watch potential. I'd rather watch Predator Badlands again than Nolan's Odyssey. That film puts you into a real complex alien world where this one throws in a bunch of A-List actors on a grey pallete and asks you to be happy with it. 6/10.
