Germany has paid reparations primarily to DIRECT LIVING SURVIVORS, not generational payments to all descendants. 2. The Japanese internment payout is partially accurate. The Civil Liberties Act of 1988 paid $20,000 to each surviving internee who was actually interned and still alive in 1988, not to their children, grandchildren, or descendants. 3. The slavery claim is filled with inaccuracies. The United States as a nation was founded in 1776, so that’s 89 years of legal slavery under U.S. law (until the 13th Amendment). The trans-Atlantic slave trade was run by West African kingdoms like the Ashanti (who captured and sold millions) and European powers (UK, Spain, Portugal, etc.). The U.S. outlawed the importation of slaves effective 1808, ended slavery at the cost of 600,000+ dead in the Civil War, and passed constitutional amendments. Since the 1960s, the U.S. has spent over $22 trillion (inflation-adjusted) on anti-poverty programs that disproportionately benefited Black Americans. Furthermore, slavery was legal throughout the world for thousands of years…until Western Europe and the U.S. formally ended it in the territories under their control. So, an argument to financially punish living descendants today for actions that were legal at the time sets a dangerous and unenforceable precedent. Because why stop there?
