Following Friday's action I've seen a few posts about an upcoming bond market melt-down where I'm not sure the posters understand what that would actually imply. A bond market crash ( say $TLT 80 to 60 ) would imply staggering losses on debts. Both businesses and investors would be severely impacted, many would declare bankruptcy, and many of those would be wiped-out, never resuming business. Costs would skyrocket for servicing existing debt and floating new debt. Not just public debt markets, but also private money. Corporate growth plans would be curtailed with most companies adopting a defensive posture. Equities markets would crash due to anticipation of extremely poor earnings reports and sharp downward revisions of future prospects. The narratives sold by the Wall Street money machine would be harshly interrupted by factual evidence that could no longer be "spun". A severe global recession would likely follow, even depression in some areas, with massive job losses and most consumers switching to purchasing nothing more than low-cost necessities. Global growth would slow a considerable amount, industries investing for far future would push-out by years their plans for debt-financed capital expansion, demand for most/all commodities would be much reduced and prices would collapse.
