UPDATE: High-Rise Fire on Hearn Road, Annapolis. One fatality from the fire apartment on the 10th floor. Fire Crews are still on scene. Fire Marshal Investigators are working to determine the origin & cause. Fire Inspectors are determining the safety of the building.

High-Rise Apartment Fire: AACoFD and AFD crews are on scene of a high-rise apartment fire at 130 Hearn Rd, in Annapolis. The fire is under control. Crews are checking for extension into other apartments. Residents are encouraged to shelter in place.

As Anne Arundel County continues to respond to an ongoing cyber incident of external origins, I want to thank our residents for their patience as certain county services remain offline temporarily.

Due to an ongoing cyber incident of external origin impacting public services, county buildings will be closed tomorrow, Monday, February 24, 2025. Telework-eligible employees are expected to work remotely using Google or internet-based systems.

Update as of 12:30 pm on Sunday, February 23, 2025: The county is taking the most proactive approach to ensure our systems are safe. Precautionary measures include limiting access to the Internet until we are able to return to full operations.

Update as of 5 pm: The County, in collaboration with the Anne Arundel County Office of Information Technology, public safety officials, and cybersecurity experts, is actively investigating an ongoing cyber incident of external origin affecting certain county services.

The county is aware that some public services are currently down and is actively working to restore access. 911 remains operational if you need to report emergencies, and 311 remains operational if you need to report concerns about county services. Thank you for your patience.

UPDATE: In reference to the road closure related to the gas leak. Central Avenue @ Muddy Creek Road now has one lane open to traffic. Please continue to follow the directions of public safety personnel that remain on the scene.

The Anne Arundel County Office of Emergency Management is staffing a call center to address non-emergency issues that residents in the area affected by the gas leak may be experiencing. If you need assistance with non-emergent issues, please call 410-222-0600

UPDATE: In reference to the gas leak investigation: Utility crews are actively working to address the gas leak in the affected line while still maintaining service to the peninsula. As soon as the leak can be contained and the gas diverted, at least one lane of traffic will be opened, which is expected to be in the next few hours. Emergency services has equipment on the affected side to respond to any emergencies. We appreciate everyone’s patience and understanding. UPDATE: In reference to the gas leak investigation: For those residents that are unable to return to their homes at this time, South River High School is open as a warming center and restrooms are available. Additionally, the Southern District Police Station Community Room is also open and restrooms are available. Continue to follow us on Facebook and “X” for the latest updates.

Central Avenue between Loch Haven Road & Muddy Creek Road is temporarily closed while fire department officials investigate a possible gas leak. Residents and motorists should expect extended delays. Vehicular and pedestrian traffic will be limited until the issue is resolved. We thank you for your patience and understanding. Please follow the direction of police officers and fire personnel that are on scene.

Due to the inclement weather, all Anne Arundel County government buildings, libraries, and senior activity centers are closed tomorrow, January 6. Regional parks will open at 11 am with limited capacity. All park programming for the day is canceled.

NB 97 is back open again after the earlier crash.

Update: (12:10 pm) SB 97 will be closed as well for a period of time. Expect heavy delays in both directions. Update: (11:50 am) NB 97 is now closed right before the WB 32 exit. Please use caution in the area of Northbound I-97 near the ramp to westbound Route 32 due to a crash involving a tractor trailer with debris in the road. Use alternate routes if possible.

Incident 1900 block of Layton Street (Crofton, Md): AACO Fire received a 911 call for a suspicious package in the area. AACo FD units and Annapolis City Bomb Units are on location and have deemed the area safe. Units will be clearing shortly.

Active Fire Incident: Townhome Fire, Brooklyn, Md. AACoFD Fire Units with BCFD Units are on location, avoid the area. Fire is under control. All occupants are out safely. One occupant was rescued by fire personnel from the basement. They were treated on-scene.
