@GastroMJB We need more data like this to inform choices for patients. Assessing the very low risk of an often fatal event for patients starting thiopurines currently impossible. Is the risk really higher in adults who are seronegative??

@ibdnurse @ibdportal #BSG2018. It would be nice to measure outcomes in relation to IBD nurses (as well as WTE nos. Eg %advice line calls responded by end of next working day, and other measures of quality?

@ibdnurse @ibdportal Great. Nice study also from Connell Int Med J 2015 shows average time spent managing biologics is 5.25hours 1st year and then 3.5 hrs per yr after. So if you have 200 patients that 1000 hrs !!

IBD nurses are central to safe monitoring of immunosupp drugs/biologics. Modelling of case load in UK (Leary/Crohn's Colitis UK) shows we need at least 2.5 WTE per 250,000. That's 450 in the UK. How do we make the case for more -about 300 now? #BSG2018

#BSG2018. This has been great. Huge unmet need for varied roles of IBD nurses. Not just Monitoring drugs. Getting admin/sec support for IBD nurses may be cost-effective AS WELL as more nurses.

@Crohnoid @drmanmeetm #BSG2018 Standard is generally by end of next working day (email or phone). I think this is a good measure of whether there is enough IBD nurse support. In some ways this is better measure than how many WTE nurses in a unit ?

Agree with this sentiment entirely. Though I would say it's a role for a specialist GI psychologist. The not-so-small matter of resources and funding aside, I think early MH intervention would reap great rewards, both for #IBD patients and the 'burden' on clinic numbers. #BSG2018 twitter.com/drmanmeetm/sta…

@AjayMVerma #BSG2018 Some IBD nurses also give the infusions - this is a problem as its hugely time-consuming and should not be counted as part of the IBDnurse role. There are more vital things for them to do

Facilitating the start of biological therapy, our IBD nurses do the leg work, Ensure screening bloods have been done, record them on to our monitoring system, make arrangements for home care or infusion clinic, ensure patient is aware of relevant info. #BSG2018
