In my younger days without kids, a job and responsibilities, I could read nonstop, now Ive been on one book for 4 months.

This makes too much sense given the utter lack of reading comprehension nowadays.
If you’re gonna read a book, odds are that 50-60% of the plot, at least, will be driven by the prose.
In addition, novels are great at breaking down a character’s thought process in prose.
If you just read dialogue, then you’re missing all kinds of nuance to everything unless writers switch to being overly expository, which then repels the people who enjoy reading prose.
Man, it feels dire at times.

Thanks everyone for all the awesome suggestions btw! I have made my selections and will begin my descent into the epics, beginning with: "Malazan Book of the Fallen" and "The Sword of Shannara" #1 of each book is on my TBR (and on my bookshelf.)

So, I've read Wheel of Time, I love Lord of the Rings. Now I am looking for my next epic fantasy series to dive into. But here's the kicker. I want one where the first book was published pre-2000, any suggestions?

Dear indie authors, don't go Kindle exclusive. Amazon does not need to have a monopoly, and it means Kobo, Apple, and library readers can't read your books.
Amazon has made Kindle very restrictive, preventing us from buying ebooks and transferring to other ereaders.

I am in a superstate of boomer and Gen Z. I understand the heart behind both sides of this issue completely. We Gen Z should absolutely be thankful for the quality of living we have today. But we also should, and have the right to, fight (and that does include complaining) for that quality of life to remain!

@ABTimothyAuthor True that. I figured after book 1 (which I hope to make a trilogy) I would query for while writing book 2 and 3. If I happen to finish all 3 then will go self publish route with a rapid release schedule.

@JR_Lynmead Valid. The only issue for me with querying and part of why I didn't do it is the timelines. It can take upwards of 5 years from acceptance by an agent to publication.

@ABTimothyAuthor Just got into the ring last year. So my writing career is still fresh. But after the first round of querying I feel like Mike Tyson's opponents probably do.
