Out today in @NatureBiotech! PhD students & postdocs: there's a trick – overlooked and underused – for having new ideas in the creative process. Talk science 1 on 1 with a science buddy that you trust and think of it as an improvisation. nature.com/articles/s4158…@MartinJLercher

There are now hundreds of genes associated with autism & neurodevelopmental disorders but what key processes in brain development they each disrupt remains unknown. In an article in @Nature today, we start tackling this question by combining forebrain #assembloids with CRISPR screens to map >400 disease genes onto stages of human cortical interneuron development. Using engineered lines, regionalized neural #organoids and over 1,000 #assembloids, we discovered a group of disease genes that interfere with GABAergic neuron generation or migration, including some surprising disease mechanisms. Check out the video below for details. This work was led by the fearless @XianglingM in the lab!! In collaboration with Bassik lab & @panagiog lab! Congratulations to @ABgnieska for defending her thesis! Elegant data and presentation! It was great fun working with you and being part of your journey! @TreutleinLab @MPI_EVA_Leipzig. It's unfortunate that Svante missed and you lost the ear, but worse things can happen in a PhD!

Excited to share our new work on thymic epithelial cell progenitors in @Nature. Together with the Boehm lab at @mpi_ie we combined scRNA-seq with a new CRISPR barcoding mouse to identify an early and a postnatal adult TEC progenitor population. 👇🧵 nature.com/articles/s4158…

Excited to share our new preprint on liver zonal regeneration:biorxiv.org/content/10.110…. Acetaminophen overdose leads to massive necrosis of pericentral hepatocytes. Yet, within four days the liver fully regenerates (1/7).
