The last day can be hard for some kids for a variety of reasons. I saw a student in the hallway this afternoon. He said, “Can I come with you in the hallway? I need some quiet time.” Absolutely! We had a little party together: sharing my lunch & talking. 1/?

It's official my practicum is complete. Receiving my Orton Gillingham certification in the mail was the highlight of my week thus far!!!! My OG practicum was the most practical learning I've done to date. Having an expert provide feedback on my lessons was invaluable.

This! One of the most thoughtful presents I have ever received. A Gr.7 student makes these beautiful pieces of plasticine artwork. He gifted me one today as he knows I love his artwork, & asked to send a photograph to “Mrs. Fisher.” A good reminder about “relationships first.”❤️

Validating them and supporting/increasing their oral language to help Ss be able to problem solve on their own next time. @10heatherly

I loved this coding idea that @Angle_Bellmoore shared today. Could this be a way to link coding with reading and writing, even the reading and writing of some of the #UFLI lessons taught. Hmmm … Thanks for the inspiration, Jenn!

Students were motivated to write to @JulieBishopDove for snack program requests. Love these authentic opportunities to read & write. They loved the banana that you gave them for their notes. ❤️

I had a small group of K students in the library today, and they wanted to play in the kitchen. What food would they make? They started this list today and began “cooking.” A. added “21 meatballs” when she made them. Could keeping a list, inspire some reading of foods tomorrow?

Today, when I came in, the K educators got some students to show me what they did. They started this shelf with the labelling. A couple of students read me their labels and wrote some more. ❤️ 2/?

Sometimes we build capacity through formal PD, & sometimes the small opportunities to connect & play are just as valuable. I feel so lucky to work with such fantastic educators, who are so open to new ideas and working through different possibilities together.💕 @ACMmysons

This brought me tremendous joy for a different reason today. Last week,I spoke to a K team about authentic opportunities to read & write. We looked at student interest & how this might connect. We looked at some labels for block & LEGO play,along with the use of a saved shelf. 1/

I keep seeing this shared, & I really appreciate the info in it. I’m curious, what are educators using to inform instruction and later support grading for report cards? Trying to figure out how the progress monitoring, screening tools, & Strand B expectations all come together.

LEGO is such a versatile tool. Some students are creating words out of LEGO. One child is blending the sounds to read what he wrote. The “No, don’t touch,” sign provides an authentic reason to write. What about adding labels to support storytelling and reading?
