@missyMmcbeth I regret that we were never able to meet. When I was well enough, I had planned to visit Christy and see the Modern Art Museum of Fort Worth.

@ACOSTARELLA It was a birthday party for her daughter/my niece. As I recall the cupcakes were the best I’ve ever had. Christy was a great hostess.

This pic was taken in 2014 before it all started. I came across it this morning and found myself wishing I could go back to that moment and warn us. But it would be selfish to. Because of her experience she changed the world. Her work led to a black box warning from the FDA on benzos. Read that again. She got the FDA to change. She helped educate other physicians. Countless lives will be saved. 40-80% of those who take benzos as prescribed experience withdrawal symptoms. 10-15% experience them for years after. Thousands and thousands harmed, many battles lost and lives altered. But the work of her and her colleagues is helping change that. The truth is, she was just bigger than us. She fulfilled her role as a physician. Despite having been harmed, she did no harm herself and fought like hell to stop harm to others. Forever a hero. Even if her story doesn’t fit the utopian mental model of the term.

My beloved sister was an advocate for those harmed. She was brave beyond measure and fought for 9 years. I’m so proud of her.
