1 Peter 2:9 (NLT): But you are not like that, for you are a chosen people. You are royal priests, a holy nation, God’s very own possession. As a result, you can show others the goodness of God, for he called you out of the darkness into his wonderful light.
It is followers of Jesus Christ who are Gods chosen people, we are the holy nation, we are Gods very own possession, we are the light (Matt 5:15), we are the salt (Matt 5:13).
Jesus clearly had something to say about the -ewish people:
John 8:42–47 (NLT): 42 Jesus told them, “If God were your Father, you would love me, because I have come to you from God. I am not here on my own, but he sent me. 43 Why can’t you understand what I am saying? It’s because you can’t even hear me! 44 For you are the children of your father the devil, and you love to do the evil things he does. He was a murderer from the beginning. He has always hated the truth, because there is no truth in him. When he lies, it is consistent with his character; for he is a liar and the father of lies. 45 So when I tell the truth, you just naturally don’t believe me! 46 Which of you can truthfully accuse me of sin? And since I am telling you the truth, why don’t you believe me? 47 Anyone who belongs to God listens gladly to the words of God. But you don’t listen because you don’t belong to God.”
Matthew 21:42–44 (NLT): 42 Then Jesus asked them, “Didn’t you ever read this in the Scriptures? …” 43 I tell you, the Kingdom of God will be taken away from you (the -ews) and given to a nation (a holy nation, aka followers of Jesus 1 Peter 2:9) that will produce the proper fruit.
1 Peter 2:9 (NLT): But you are not like that, for you are a chosen people. You are royal priests, a holy nation, God’s very own possession. As a result, you can show others the goodness of God, for he called you out of the darkness into his wonderful light.
2 Pet 2:5-8 and Matt 21:42 say same thing, that the -ews rejected Jesus Christ, and hence, God chose those who follow his son to be his Chosen people, his Holy Nation.
Jesus says the same thing here when speaking to the centurion:
Matthew 8:10–12 (NLT): 10 When Jesus heard this, he was amazed. Turning to those who were following him, he said, “I tell you the truth, I haven’t seen faith like this in all Israel! 11 And I tell you this, that many Gentiles will come from all over the world—from east and west—and sit down with Abraham, Isaac, and Jacob at the feast in the Kingdom of Heaven. 12 But many Israelites—those for whom the Kingdom was prepared—will be thrown into outer darkness, where there will be weeping and gnashing of teeth.
There is a reason why people use the King James Bible….it uses thee, ye, thou and key words to properly use plural, singular, etc
Genesis 12:3 (KJV 1900): And I will bless them that bless thee, and curse him that curseth thee: and in thee shall all families of the earth be blessed.
In thee (Abram), all families of the earth shall be blessed.
Meaning: Not in the -ews, but in Abram. There was no such thing as -ewish people when Abram was alive, that was not for another 1,000 years!
Genesis 12:7 (KJV 1900): And the Lord appeared unto Abram, and said, Unto thy SEED will I give this land: and there builded he an altar unto the Lord, who appeared unto him.
Who is thy SEED? Who are the promises of Abram for?
Galatians 3:16 (KJV): Now to Abraham and his seed were the promises made. He saith not, And to seeds, as of many; but as of one, And to thy seed, which is Christ.
Galatians 3:29 (KJV): And if ye be Christ’s, then are ye Abraham’s seed, and heirs according to the promise.
Conclusion: The people of the newly created state of Israel or the religious —ewish people are not Gods chosen people. The promises were given to Abram and Christ. And those “in Christ” are heirs to the promises. What promises? The spiritual and eternal blessings, not a piece of land. It’s our soul (Mk 8:34-37)…
