GHMC Commissioner Sri R.V. Karnan has instructed officials to take proactive measures to prevent the spread of seasonal diseases. In a review meeting with Additional, Zonal, and Deputy Commissioners, AMOHs, and Entomology Officers at the GHMC Head Office, he emphasized the importance of maintaining effective sanitation, mosquito control, and food safety. AMOHs and SEs were directed to plan and carry out fogging and anti-larval operations systematically at both the circle and zonal levels. As part of morning ALO activities, awareness programs on dengue and malaria should be conducted in schools and colleges. Colony drainage canals must be treated to prevent mosquito breeding, and in areas with reported dengue cases, SOP-based interventions should be intensified using data from Basti Dawakhanas and PHCs. Sanitation teams were instructed to ensure timely garbage removal using SSR vehicles and to take necessary steps to prevent waterlogging. Unauthorized holdings and construction and demolition (C&D) waste must be cleared, especially along main roads. The Urban Biodiversity (UBD) wing has been tasked with tree pruning and plantation near lakes and walking tracks to help improve environmental hygiene in public spaces. On the revenue side, the Commissioner directed officials to achieve property tax collection targets and identify residential buildings being used for commercial activities to levy appropriate taxes—even in the absence of valid trade licenses. Monthly reviews will be conducted to monitor progress, and he warned that any unreported commercial operations on main roads would be subject to vigilance inquiries. Ensuring accurate identification and enforcement in these cases remains a key priority. Addressing the issue of stray dogs, the Commissioner stressed the need to complete sterilization procedures in accordance with set protocols. He also urged officials to promote adoption drives, which would support the issuance of pet dog licenses and help control the stray population effectively. Regarding food safety, he instructed inspections of meat shops due to the potential sale of stale or unsafe items.
