Sigh...
Ald. Hadden rejected plan for 52 units, 11 affordable, 9 car spots, 1/2 mile from CTA Red stop after the Not In My Backyard crowd complained about density, and demanded more parking. 👎
Block Club's @madisonsavedra reports.

@Allinallnotbad @JosephPolitano There are zip codes where the city of Chicago is selling empty lots for $1 and there are zip codes where demand is rapidly outpacing supply.
both would stand to benefit from modernized zoning, density, and permitting practices.
English

@JosephPolitano Not saying this isn't true but wouldn't it be the case that there would be little new building in Chicago even if it were easy to build due to the lack of demand for population loss? Those numbers look pretty good for a city actively losing population.

Greenway treatments, a few blocks changed to 1-way car traffic, biggest reconfiguration coming near Clark and Hayt Elementary.

btw - Divvy added scooter data this month. Made a couple quick charts on the Other App.
English

@ACannon_3 Any way you could split out scooter vs bike vs bike usage?

@DanielKayHertz @mollyfleck Existing building near me on Lincoln could have been remodeled into a 24 unit + retail, 0 parking project. Neighborhood association shot it down.
Instead, 1/3 of the retail space and all of the basement are being converted to parking. Only 16 (presumebly more expensive) units.

English

@mollyfleck It would be good but honestly the proportion of the city with functionally binding minimums (ie, where developers would build less than they can legally do) is probably pretty low at this point
English

When will Chicago get with the times and eliminate parking minimums?

The Director of City Planning in Minneapolis said, "No single legislative action did more to contribute to housing creation than the elimination of parking minimums.”nyc.streetsblog.org/2024/10/02/op-…

@StarLineChicago What is a hypothetical Green Line extension most likely to look like anyway?

English

@DanButtersChi @mollyfleck 600 Chicagoans and 1,715 Illinoisians total.
This was not a survey by some bike advocacy group. The data comes from IDOT, duplicates are removed, and it is weighted to accurately represent demographics.

@JGrantGlover Interesting. Do you know many miles of each road designation we have?
Looks like more non-expressway traffic being directed to local streets, largely explainable by the rise of GPS and navigation apps?
English

@ksuwildkat @KFordRatings Looks like data scraping may be having a rough week 1. This is ESPN box score vs gameonpaper, Alan Bowman passing yards are off by 100...

English

@KFordRatings OK, not pointing fingers but Louisville jump 8 spots for beating Austin Peay while Oklahoma State drops 4 spots for beating SDSU? Also, UCF jumping 11 and Arkansas 17? Also, no movement for ND?
Im assuming its small sample early season data stuff.

With some easy traffic re-routes and a road diet around Palmer Square you could expand the effective footprint of the park by roughly 115,000 SQFT- the
size of two football fields.
Maybe something to consider before opting to spend $222,000 on parking expansions.

Neighbors were outraged after workers mistakenly removed bike lanes and traffic markings in Logan Square. buff.ly/3WY4R7e

IDOT Survey Results are in:
- Public Transportation, Passenger Rail, Bike and Ped infra expansions are broadly popular. Highways are not.
- This is especially true among Chicagoans and 18-34 year old Illinoisans.
