Angry rant warning: When you spend years developing and applying specific kind of AI methods for astro, and become the main person for those methods in the world, and in preparation for a proposal you do preliminary work for exactly the thing you will propose...

...publish a paper and put a plot in the proposal to demonstrate it works. And you get a comment from the reviewer that there is no previous work to prove this is realistic proposal and the proposal is denied. Can someone tell me...how not to be frustrated in this absurd system?!
