@DigitalRanch3r States and countries are hopping on this bandwagon of patch-on "age gate" policies that are so easily circumvented by kids while creating massive headaches for the larger community. Privacy invasive, lazy, and doesn't actually help while pretending to be "for the children".

Found my original first #hamradio, purchased in 1998 from #RadioShack. I need to find a working HTX-202 LCD, and probably a internal battery replacement kit. The battery pack is a AA batt pack, but it was full of leaky dead battery goo. Will take a while to clean. Vintage ftw.

I'm all for protecting kids from restricted sites/material, but the face thing has been proven easy to trick and they were already hacked once. As always invade your privacy and make it harder on the people who aren't doing anything wrong instead of going after the ones that are.

Discord VPN bans seem to be rolling out. I'm always on a VPN for privacy protection and can no longer connect on 2 different VPNs. Along with the face scanning age verification coming out in March, I think I'll be dropping the app all together.

I'm stickler for security and and MFA, but the short timeouts and number of times I have to login during my work day is ridonkulous.

Having a great time at Quartzfest. The mesh community here is really big. I have 45 different nodes found, most within a 1/2 mile. Using an antenna I designed this is my first chance to try and I think it’s a winner!!

If you have radios for “Ecomms” but don’t practice WITH INTENTION with others in your circles, you’re really just collecting gear. Get at out there and turn those “toys” into “tools.”

You can be a radio super genius with the coolest new radio, but if you and your people don't actually have their radios with them, charged, turned on, on the right channel, with the volume up - comms are a no go. IRL this is where it breaks down. You need training and a plan.

Electrolytic capacitors represent the primary source of electronic circuit damage from failing components. Over time, almost all electrolytic capacitors fail, and that can manifest itself in a loud smoky pop with the capacitor literally bursting when powered up. Or the plague may be silent as they leak their electrolytes all over a PC board, damaging circuitry (or making shorts across traces) without making a peep. A sure sign of a failing capacitor is a canister bugled out top, as seen in the photo. Another sign is a tiny dried puddle of clear fluid sitting at its base on the circuit board. If you have a prized electronic device over 20 years old and you want to use it again some day, consider preemptively removing its capacitors—or replacing them with fresh ones as soon as you can—before they leak and irreversibly damage surrounding circuitry.

Big news for hams and experimenters: 44Net Connect is live! 🎉 A simple, modern way to start using 44Net IP’s, with no complex setup required. Works with a wide range of devices that support WireGuard. Check out the related blog post to learn more: ardc.net/introducing-44…

Using Grok, I think I just created the greatest ham radio net logger ever created. It is all HTML and has a cumulative roaster, so each net you save/export it adds to the roaster. You click on the callsign and it repopulates the check-in fields. Keeps track of total check-ins, net time, and total operator time. github.com/po468/EC-code/…

I have another #ARES deployment coming up for the California International Marathon. One of my AAR points from last event was to print my maps and event info on moisture-resistant paper. #hamradio #emcomm
