ADC National Legal Director @JeninYounesEsq joined @TheDailyShow with @JonStewart to discuss how MAGA’s response to ICE’s murder of Renee Good in Minneapolis reveals a dangerous erosion of civil liberties - from abandoning free speech principles to justifying legally dubious violence, and more. The amendment still doesn’t fix the problem. State agencies will still have to use IHRA, meaning students and advocates will self-censor to avoid investigation.

Wisconsin 📍 AB446 is heading to @GovEvers desk. This bill would codify the IHRA definition into Wisconsin law, a move designed to silence criticism of Israel and chill free speech. 🧵

The complaint alleges this incident was part of a broader pattern of viewpoint-based suppression, including silencing pro-Palestinian speakers at city meetings, targeting demonstrations connected to Palestinian rights, pressuring cultural institutions, and blocking critics on official or quasi-official channels. After the police visit, Ms. Pacheco curtailed her online speech out of fear of further consequences, demonstrating the chilling effect that government intimidation can have on constitutionally protected expression. The lawsuit seeks declaratory and injunctive relief, as well as damages, and aims to ensure that residents can speak freely–including in support of Palestinian human rights–without fear of government retaliation.

BREAKING: ADC has filed a federal lawsuit against the City of Miami Beach, its mayor, police chief, and other officials after police were sent to a resident’s home in response to her social media criticism of the mayor’s statements about Palestinians. The lawsuit was filed on behalf of Raquel Pacheco, a Miami Beach resident and local activist, who was visited by police in January 2026 after she posted criticism of the mayor and his efforts to censor No Other Land, a film documenting the destruction of a Palestinian community. Officers told her her speech was “concerning” and instructed her to refrain from posting similar content. She recorded the encounter, and the video quickly spread online, raising widespread concern about government retaliation for protected political speech.

Remember when the cops showed up at the home of a woman in Miami Beach in January and told her to stop posting pro-Palestine content and criticizing the mayor? I am THRILLED to share that we just filed a First Amendment lawsuit on her behalf, alleging past and ongoing violations of her 1A rights

ADC extends our warmest wishes to all those observing Eid al-Fitr. May this day of faith, giving, and reflection bring you and your loved ones peace and renewal, and strengthen our shared commitment to fighting for justice and dignity.   This Eid comes at a difficult time for our community. Across the region, many are marking this day while facing profound loss, bombardment, and genocide.   Here at home, Arab and Muslim communities are confronting rising discrimination, attacks on our civil rights, and increasing efforts to silence voices speaking out for justice. These challenges are real, and they demand continued vigilance and action.   And yet, even in the face of all of this, we continue to see the strength of our communities—in the way people show up for one another, speak out, and refuse to accept injustice. That strength is what sustains this work and makes it possible to keep moving forward.   We hope this Eid brings you moments of peace, time with loved ones, and the strength to carry forward in these times ahead.

After 12 months of unlawful detention, Palestinian activist Leqaa Kordia has been released from ICE custody. Leqaa, a 33-year-old Palestinian woman from Paterson, New Jersey, was detained on March 13, 2025, nearly one year after attending the April 2024 Columbia University protests for Palestine. She was among hundreds arrested at the protest, and the charges against her were immediately dismissed in the interest of justice. But despite that, the federal government used that dismissed and sealed arrest to target her. Homeland Security obtained NYPD records on Leqaa, questioned her friends and family, and surveilled nearly every aspect of her personal life in a chilling act of political retaliation. As the last remaining pro-Palestinian protester detained in connection with the Columbia protests, Leqaa’s release is a victory for free speech, immigrant justice, and the movement for Palestinian liberation. We celebrate today, and we remain committed to the fight until no one is criminalized, detained, or deported for speaking out against genocide and standing up for justice. ADC extends deep gratitude to Leqaa’s legal team @CUNY_CLEAR @MuslimAdvocates @TXCivilRights, advocates, organizers, and all those who fought tirelessly for her freedom.

Today we remember Rachel Corrie, killed 23 years ago in Rafah, Gaza, on March 16, 2003. Rachel was 23, an American activist and volunteer with the International Solidarity Movement. She was crushed to death by an Israeli bulldozer while standing in solidarity with Palestinians and trying to protect homes from demolition. Rachel’s courage, humanity, and commitment to justice continue to resonate around the world. In the years since her death, her name has become a symbol of solidarity with Palestine and of the conviction that ordinary people can and must act in the face of injustice. Through the work carried on in her memory, including the @rcfoundation, her legacy continues to inspire people to build connection, understanding, and collective struggle for dignity and freedom. Today, we honor Rachel Corrie’s life, her moral clarity, and her unwavering commitment to justice. We remember her not only for how she died, but for how she lived: with compassion, courage, and deep solidarity with the Palestinian people.

Israel’s latest act of impunity is a reminder that its institutions are designed to shield abuse against Palestinians, not punish it. Israel’s use of sexual violence as a weapon of war has long been documented, and U.S. support continues to enable that violence at every level.

If Zionists had their way, this would be happening here too. The only thing standing between us and what they’re doing to this woman is the First Amendment

Iran will not be the end. For Israel, the goal posts always move. “Only when it comes to Israel, we are told, must the US go out of its way to placate Israel, offer more assurances of undying love, boost military aid, and fulfill every Israeli request. But there’s no evidence that this has made Israel more likely to pursue peace; all the evidence suggests it has emboldened the most intransigent and militarist currents in Israeli politics. That is utterly predictable: Spare the rod, spoil the child.” Read more at adctimes.substack.com
