To me, the ending is not only not perfect, it's terrible. Then again, I'm cursed with the knowledge of both history and geopolitics. So I see exactly how, realistically speaking, this ending would have completely collapsed within 5 years. The only things that were actually accomplished by the ending was Britannia mostly collapsing. And Japan being more free by the end, which, you know, Hooray for that. But you could have done that by just faking your death rather than actually dying. If you actually wanted to achieve a more peaceful world. You would have done what the opposite of the anime's ending was. You would not have destroyed the WMD 's. You would have mass produced them and then handed them out like candy, at least one to every major nation. Both history And human psychology shows that the only thing that actually attains lasting peace is mutually assured destruction. And he got rid of those, which means in a handful of years time people would have been right back at each other's throats over whatever dumb bullshit. I'm not going to say the ending accomplished literally nothing, because Again, Britannia did collapse and Japan was made more free. But outside of those two things, nothing else in the ending survives beyond 5 years, I promise you. And arguably those two things could have Been accomplished with just faking his death rather than again actually dying. Either way, though, far from a perfect ending, much less "the best anime ending ever"

The Zero Requiem from Code Geass is still one of the best endings in anime to this day
