The Tobacco and Vapes Bill's second reading has just passed by 415 votes to just 47 🙌 A massive political endorsement of what is likely to be the most important piece of public health legislation in over a decade. Now onto the committee stage.

Finally, the bill provides plenty to help tackle the worrying increase in kids who vape. To paraphrase @CMO_England, the following remains: vaping is safer than smoking but if you don't smoke, don't vape and it's unacceptable to market vapes to kids. /end

Also crucial is ongoing funding to help people quit. This is usually through the public health grant, which has been cut by 28% per person since 2015/16. The previous gov had earmarked an *additional* £70m/yr over the next 5yrs for quit services - continuing this is vital.
