Rust School - Cohort 01 starts tomorrow. → 700+ builders selected → 100+ mentors onboarded → 1 shared goal: mastering Rust and building what’s next For some, it will be the moment that changes everything. New skills. New networks. New opportunities that didn’t exist before. Rust isn’t just growing - it’s becoming one of the most in-demand languages across systems, infrastructure, and Web3. The builders who learn it now will be ahead. This is day one for Cohort 01. But it’s just the beginning of something much bigger…

Vercel charges $20/seat/month. Netlify charges $20/month. Heroku killed its free tier entirely. And if you go over your bandwidth? Surprise bills. Sometimes thousands of dollars. There is an open-source alternative to all three. For $0. It is called Coolify. 53,000+ stars on GitHub. You install it on any server you own. A $5 VPS. A Raspberry Pi. An old laptop. Anything with SSH. Then you deploy everything: - Static sites - Full-stack apps - Databases - APIs - 280+ one-click services (WordPress, Ghost, Plausible, n8n, Supabase, and more) Here's the wildest part: It does things the paid platforms charge extra for. - Free SSL certificates, auto-renewed - Automatic database backups to S3 - Pull request preview deployments - Real-time server terminal in your browser - Push-to-deploy from GitHub, GitLab, Bitbucket - Server monitoring with Discord/Telegram/email alerts No vendor lock-in. All your configs live on your server. If you stop using Coolify, everything still runs. The $20/month you pay Vercel? That is per seat. A 5-person team pays $100-500/month depending on usage. With Coolify on a $5 Hetzner VPS, that same team pays $5/month. Total. Apache-2.0 licensed. Self-hosted. Free forever. 100% Open Source. (Link in the comments)

Rust Roadmap for Backend Engineers, Who Want to Ship Fast: 1. Master the Basics : Ownership, borrowing, lifetimes, mutability & Cargo 2. Understand Rust’s Real Power : Structs, Enums, Traits, Generics & Pattern Matching 3. Error Handling Done Right : Result, ? operator, thiserror & anyhow 4. Modules, Crates & Project Structure : Clean architecture from day one 5. Async Rust : tokio, async/await and why it’s the future 6. Build CLI Tools : Use clap, make something actually useful 7. Work with Data : Serde, JSON, YAML, files & HTTP clients 8. Build REST APIs : Axum or Actix-Web + proper middleware & validation 9. Advanced Concurrency : Channels, tokio tasks, parallelism & rate limiting 10. Database Layer : SQLx (async) + PostgreSQL + connection pooling 11. Testing & Quality : Unit tests, integration tests, benchmarks & property-based testing 12. Production Ready : Docker, tracing, logging, graceful shutdown, observability & config Bonus Steps: - Read source code of popular crates (tokio, axum, sqlx) - Build 3 real projects (Auth service, Background worker, API scraper) Stop just “learning Rust” Follow this → become → production dangerous Save it. Follow it. Ship it. Who’s starting this Rust journey in 2026?

Deployed my CI/CD engine to a VPS tonight and I finally understand why developers need one. I tried Render first. Free Postgres expires in 90 days. Can't run Docker inside their containers. The whole point of my project is spawning Docker containers to build code and the hosting platform won't let me run Docker. That's like building a car and being told the parking lot doesn't allow engines. So I got a Hetzner VPS. $5.59/month. SSH'd in, installed Node, Docker, Postgres, everything I needed. No restrictions. No "upgrade to pro for this feature." My server, my rules. Went from zero VPS experience to a fully deployed backend with Postgres in Docker, PM2 keeping the process alive, and GitHub OAuth working from a cloud server in Helsinki. The backend roadmap says "learn cloud infrastructure." I just did — because my project demanded it. Day 49.

@mfranz_on Rust is pretty great. xAI code is mostly Rust and 𝕏 is rapidly replacing legacy Twitter Scala code with Rust.

🦀 Building an LLM from scratch in Rust - Part 4 is where the model actually learns. No autograd magic: you hand-roll backprop through linear layers, attention, layer norm, MLP. Watching it go from pure noise to Shakespeare. tag1.com/how-to/part4-t… #rust #rustlang #LLM #gpt

Fun fact: OpenAI handles 800 million users on ChatGPT with just one PostgreSQL primary and 50 read replicas 🤯 Today, OpenAI published an engineering blog explaining how they scaled their Postgres setup to support a massive 800 million users using a single primary and 50 multi-region replicas. They dive into details around their scaling approach, the PgBouncer proxy, cache locking, and cascading read replicas. It is genuinely neat and impressive. I just published a video on my YouTube channel where I dissect the blog and break down the nuances. Give it a watch - it is short and fun.
