Earlier in the week, Toroa Te Hiwi went out to the Groynes for a high/low ropes course. It was fantastic to see so many of the children showing courage when faced with challenging tasks!

We have loved designing and making a birdhouse that we will use to shelter out Electric Garden device! The children loved using the saw to cut out our design as well as sanding down the edges. They did a great job on this project! @ElectricGardnNZ

Today we had Kea Te Tauihu come and join us for another session of Digital Technology. The children of Toroa Te Kei supported them in creating a battle bot which was controlled and driven by a Sphero. It was awesome to see how creative the teams were with their bot designs!!

This week we explored the concept of tuakana-tiena and how we can share our knowledge with others. On Friday we welcomed Kea Te Tauihu into our classroom where we supported them in exploring a range of digital technologies including LittleBits and Makey Makey! @LHaggitt1

This week we learnt about electrical circuits, specifically looking at inputs and outputs while exploring LittleBits. The children loved learning about the function of different inputs and outputs and enjoyed creating an art machine with the knowledge they had learnt.

Today we enjoyed learning about software and hardware and its uses while looking at the data from our Electric Garden device. Afterwards, we got out into the garden and planted 5 kamo kamo seedlings which we look forward to monitoring over the coming weeks @ElectricGardnNZ

I am loving seeing the progress the children are making in their dance routine for Dancing Like the Stars! Today they learnt new steps and absolutely smashed it. I can’t wait to see how the next few weeks go and to continue watching their routine take shape!

Today a group of students from Toroa Te Kei took part in their first session of Film School. They really enjoyed learning about and taking photos using different camera angles, and are excited to use this new knowledge to start filming next week! @ChristchurchLib

We are incredibly lucky to have Jess come in weekly to teach us the Lindy Hop as part of our Dancing Like the Stars project. The children have worked hard over the last two sessions to pick up the steps and to dance with a partner. Check out Kiera and Tanima having a go! #Dance

One of my favourite things is listening to children problem solving and working collaboratively. Kiera and Safiya demonstrated these skills today while trying to create their wind-powered boats. Well done girls!

Today Toroa Te Kei visited the Canterbury Museum to further develop our knowledge of Pacific Navigation and Discovery. We really enjoyed learning about the ways in which Polynesians navigated across the Pacific Ocean. We also loved checking out the rest of the museum!
