Shane is joined by Professor Thomas Hazlett to discuss the growing importance of airwave spectrum in an economy that is increasingly wireless, what a property-rights regime for spectrum looks like in practice, and more. @ShaneTews Listen to the full #ExplaintoShane episode: aei.org/multimedia/unl…

As media hoopla over the $6 million March verdict in the K.G.M. social media addiction trial fades, it’s important to reflect on numerous problems with both the outcome and the logic behind the case. Those problems also should inform public policy about regulating social media platforms. @ProfClayCalvert aei.org/technology-and…

If effective independence declines, policymakers should focus less on labels and more on building credibility and predictability. They are what ultimately encourage investment, innovation, and growth. @drj_policy aei.org/technology-and…

The EU’s finding of the “success” of its DMA lacks credibility, as it falls far short of the kind of comprehensive cost-benefit analysis normally considered necessary to assess the efficacy of such significant and far-reaching legislative change. Last week, ABC accused the FCC of violating its First Amendment right over scrutiny of a particular show, “The View.” This is something that AEI scholar @ProfDanielLyons predicted earlier this year. Read his initial thoughts on this here: aei.org/technology-and…

What bothers me most about this bill is that it would stop data centers if they are 20 MW or more. But the ones that people seem to not like are the hyperscalers, which, by definition, start at 100 MW. In practice, a 20 MW cap would stop projects like the one proposed at Oakland University, which would be 26 MW. Schools and research organizations are trying to capitalize on AI and this bill would hinder that significantly. I spent my summers in rural Illinois and I still own farmland there. I get that some of these projects are changing the character of regions in a way that residents don't like. But mandating a national ban over 20 MW is a disproportionate response.

Sanders and AOC introduced a bill to pause ALL AI data center construction. 300+ local bills filed. Half of planned 2026 data centers facing delays or cancellation. Each one brings billions to local economies. The people who say they want American jobs are trying to block the biggest job creation engine since the interstate highway system.

Senator Bernie Sanders has called for the United States to work with China on artificial intelligence, straying from the idea that there is an active race between both countries. But this isn’t the first time that Senator Sanders has fallen short on AI policy. His report earlier last year on AI and jobs was an early warning sign of a gap in perception. AMD soared 20% after earnings. But this is more than just a story about AMD, it’s a signal of what’s going on in the larger AI landscape. As AI continues to evolve, demand for AI hardware is rapidly increasing. And that’s why chip policy matters more now than ever. A new trial in New Mexico against Meta alleges that the company is harming young users and may cause social media addiction. This is not a new claim, but the outcome of this lawsuit could test the constitutional limits of platform regulation. Earlier this year, @ProfClayCalvert addressed what policymakers should do in this regard. Read his thoughts: aei.org/technology-and…

If a recent ruling by a federal judge holds up down the line, then words and actions taken by two former, high-ranking Trump officials—Pamela Bondi and Kristi Noem—will have exposed President Donald Trump’s administration to charges of free-speech hypocrisy. @ProfClayCalvert aei.org/technology-and…

Changes in the workplace and the way communications networks are managed have increased the scale and scope of vulnerabilities to network outages. The social costs are vast and increasing. Addressing both network and commercial resilience is becoming an ever more urgent policy matter. New from Bronwyn Howell: aei.org/technology-and…
