Probably one of the luke-warmest Rust takes... but here goes... The PVP system needs a change; not a 'tinker', not a slightly adjusted aim-cone, not a new weapon, not a cheese meta - a proper wholesale change like we had a few years back. It has become incredibly stale, doesn't reward hard-work/practice, and doesn't allow for self-expression. It just feels... one dimensional.... @mrpokke It baffles me how many people are just okay with killing the whole canvas people like they didnt matter. And talking about parenting and how Renoir wanted to save his daughter and calling Alicia/Maelle selfish is literally pissing me. If people want to bring parenting [1]

Expedition 33 Story Review (spoilers) 10/10, yes better than Amphoreus NOWAY. The story is the perfect tale of loss and acceptence. Maelle/Alicia's feeling of escapism from the real world where she lost her face, her voice, her brother, tries to bury herself in the false reality just for the one lifetime such that she can relive this world with her lost brother, even if it kills her and everything around her, on top of disregarding the literal final piece of Verso's soul for her own hypocritical and selfish desires of unwillingness to accept. While this is going on, Renoir was doing everything he can to salvage what little there is left of his family, on top of going through the pain of essentially being the ultimate villain in his daughter's eyes when he's doing literally everything to try and save her before she destroys herself and in turn the family, even if it means wiping out the expedition again and again which to Maelle's eyes, are everything that she could have but never will. He was never the bad guy, he was acting in the only reasonable way there was to bring his daughter back no matter how delusional Alicia's thought process was. He knows she will never want to return, hence why Verso told Alicia on how he already knows she lied to Renoir, but he just comes to accept this as one last act of bringing his daughter a sense of happiness she has not felt for so long. Verso was long gone, and the entire Canvas was the final piece of his soul being forced into contiunance due to Alicia's unwillingness to let go, to the point where not only was she slowly crumbling, but even Verso's soul himself was trapped in an almost hell like experience when he never wanted to paint, when all he wanted was to play the piano. The projection of Verso (which is why he could never die) did have its own thoughts and emotions, forming bonds with beings like Esqiue and Monoco, but he also knew Alicia has to accept reality was not something she could run away from, while also wanting his family to finally heal and move on from his death in the real world. I feel at the end, the only reasonable choice was to side with Verso and snap Alicia back into reality, because no matter how your perception of this ideal world is, reality is something you can never escape from. Verso is gone, and the idea of dragging out his final moments just for her personal sense of satisfaction was hypocrisy at its finest when everything the expedition was about: "for those who come after." I assume with her ending, as she eventually dies due to chroma exposure while also showing a little resemblance to the Mad Paintress, is the destruction of her family; everyone she loved will be forsaken for chasing a false sense of euphoria, of not losing Verso, and not accepting her life outside of the Canvas. In one final sacrifice, bearing the loss of his friends like Esquie and Monoco, the betrayal from Sciel, and the anger of Lune, as well as essentially destroying everything that was held dear to Verso in this world and by Maelle, he finally pushed Maelle into reality where she finally reunites with her real family and starts the healing process with everyone together as they accept the loss of Verso while bidding farewell to the false reality that has been holding them back from acceptance during this entire time, and his soul achieves the eternal rest it has desired for so long. In the end, I wanna close this with my poetic summary: A Life To Paint what you Love cannot be forever, but A Life To Love what you Paint will continue your journey, your adventure, your expedition. And when you look back someday in the future at this expedition you have embarked in the past, you can finally say... For those who come after. If theres anything I left out feel free to mention, this is just be based on my own understanding. The game itself feels more like a movie than a game, and an absolute cinema one at that.
