The 2026 short session is officially in full swing! Throughout the day, we will be highlighting our top priorities for this short session, recognizing the legislators who are making it possible and sharing polling results on many of these topics. #NCGA lawmakers have filed legislation that: 🧾 Addresses out of control property tax bills. 🏠 Makes homeownership more affordable by increasing supply and cutting red tape. 👷♀️Expands access to benefits for workers. In addition to these newly filed bills, legislators can still deliver on: 🏥 Certificate of Need reforms that expands access to care and lowers costs. 💰 Continue to cut taxes and enshrine these cuts into our states constitution. ✂️ Cut unnecessary barriers that stand in the way of small businesses through regulatory reform. 📚 Offering students more public school options through public school open enrollment. The #NCGA is well positioned to continue to deliver on the recipe for success that has made North Carolina one of the top destinations in the world. We look forward to partnering together in continuing to deliver results for our great state. #ncpol

We’ve seen NC grow significantly over the last 15 years because of our tax climate. It’s time to continue that by constitutionally capping our income tax at 3.5%, giving people certainty that we’re going to stay the course. Voters, even a majority of Dems, agree. #ncpol

Not only are these policies great for the state, they’re extremely popular with NC voters. 79% of NCians want to see property tax protections enshrined in the state constitution. #ncpol

@WakeCountyMgr @Donmial @vickieforwake @WakeSheriff @Vote4Shinica @sevansforwake @TeamJackson4NC @TheJoelFund @Waters4Wake @WakeMed @WCPSS .@WakeCountyMgr recommended increasing the property tax rate by 2 cents to generate $62.15 million of additional revenue. The new rate would be 53.71 cents per $100 of property value, increasing the tax bill for a $450k home by $90.

NEW: Four NC House Democrats want to cut nearly $400 million from the Opportunity Scholarship Program over two years and redirect it to child care subsidies — a major rollback of the 2023 school choice expansion.
