Appreciate @FT taking a closer look at a threat I've been raising for months. This reporting makes one thing clear: our adversaries are turning the commercial data economy into an intelligence tool to identify and track U.S. personnel. We can NOT leave that loophole open.

For 80 years, America has mastered the art of limited war. If we're going to commit American force, we owe our troops and the American people decisive objectives and decisive outcomes.

Iran suspected of using advertising data to track Americans amid strikes. Ad-blockers can be a life or death matter. The commercial location data industry (ad tracking, network tracking, etc.) is a privacy nightmare. If Iran can get it, it's a national security emergency for every government. Ads were an annoyance. Now they're potential kill chain input. And a thousand other harms. Industry lobbyists make sure that the data keeps flowing. While the companies make sure you have no idea what's happening. It is morally right to block ads. Wild that, for years, US has been warned that this is an issue by Senator @RonWyden and the loophole remains open. (Good to see @RepPatHarrigan leaning in here & proposing legislation) It is especially wild to me that Americans are massively less protected from the commercial tracking industry than most developed countries' citizens. Some would argue even Chinese citizens get better protections (though not from their gov!). It's a multi-faceted mess but in my mind, the solutions aren't. Some examples: Governments ✅No government device should get ads & tracking. They should be blocked at the gateway. ✅An ad/tracking/broker business that enables national security harms should fear prosecution & sanction Lawmakers ✅ Make the laws & give the authorities to shut this s*itshow down before it gets worse. Phone networks ✅ Block tracking attempts, warn users & brief governments Platforms ✅ Protect your users & don't be complicit when third parties use your tools to track them. ✅ Sue the worst abusers. Phone Manufacturers ✅ Kill in-app advertising-IDs Enterprise ✅ Ad block everywhere, block any app that integrates tracking. Everybody ✅ It's OK to block ads. Don't settle for this. Washington is drifting toward a dangerous outcome. If Congress fails to deliver the defense funding and investments needed this year, America won't just lose time, we'll lose momentum at one of the most consequential moments for our national security in decades. It would weaken our hand with Iran just as the regime is testing America's resolve. It would leave more than 150,000 forward-deployed American troops operating under greater uncertainty. It would freeze billions of dollars in private investment that's finally rebuilding our defense, delaying new factories, slowing weapons production, and putting next-generation defense technologies on hold. And it would tell our allies, many of whom have stepped up because we've asked them to, that America may not be prepared to lead. Meanwhile, China isn't slowing down. Russia isn't slowing down. Iran isn't slowing down. Our adversaries will use every day of American dysfunction to widen the gap. We are on the verge of the most significant defense industrial revival in a generation. We will either build on that historic momentum, or walk off the cliff into the oblivion of a Second Last Supper. The House needs to get itself in order.

He still might not serve a sentence anywhere close to what that damage deserves. Every F-35 carries over 900 pounds of rare earth materials, and until now, most of that supply chain ran through China. Same exposure on the Patriot system's radar lines and the B-21's radar and space-surveillance systems. Major defense companies now have to prove those supply chains are China-free by January 1, 2027 or lose eligibility for the contracts that build our most important weapons systems. .@SecDuffy said it himself: @USDOT doesn't have the authority to require a standardized English test for commercial drivers, only Congress does. My SAFE Drivers Act is exactly that fix, one uniform English proficiency test before any CDL is issued or renewed, nationwide, no more state-by-state loopholes. The authority he needs is sitting right here, and it's past time we got it to the floor.
