Why does an abstract deadline extension feel like a rejection of the one you submitted on time? I logically know 1 abstract does not a conference make, so it’s an odd way to feel. Emotions are weird. #GeneChat

@theredgc1 This is one of those linguistic differences between countries, as I have a VERY different image of you attacking a spider with a thong compared to what you meant!

Todays lunch time buddy was not cool. I saw movement on my skirt and a bloody red back spider was crawling on it! After some freaking out and a mad grab for a thong spidey has left this world. I don’t kill house spiders but red backs are too dangerous to leave around!

Trying to decide if Outlook is using some sort of machine learning thing when deciding which auto-responses to suggest. Our newest genetic counsellor is feeling a bit called out by these. #GeneChat

@Catherineoscopy In my department, we are encouraged to take “comfort breaks” between meetings. Very civilised.

In professional situations, I have been hearing the expression “to take a bio break.” It is deeply awkward. What was wrong with “restroom break”? Really, I would rather someone halt a meeting and announce “it’s potty time!”

@coophastiCGC In the old days, you didn’t have the option to pay in instalments, so you got hit with a big bill when it was time to recertify and it could be more than an annual professional allowance. By breaking it up, it’s more likely you might get work to cover it.
