@mm_2191 @HalifaxFireNews I might add your response to a non critical and non political observation is exactly why people have left or reduced usage on Twitter (or X I suppose). People find the responses to simple observations toxic.

POST | HRM’s move off X for urgent and non-urgent notifications for vanity sake is proving to be regressive. NS EMO data shows 78% relied on X as their crisis hub. Fragmenting alerts across 5+ platforms forces stressed HRM residents to hunt for critical information. Centralized comms save lives; HRM may want to rethink their decision and meet the public where they are. #Halifax

@mm_2191 @HalifaxFireNews Not sure if you read the article or not. It’s not about usage. It’s about new downloads of an app. It totally excludes the majority who use websites. Not apps. The recent commission on Portapique found that the vast majority of NSians do not use or have Twitter. But use websites

@HalifaxFireNews That makes sense. What made me wonder was the criticism RCMP have received for relying on Twitter or X during Portapique. It feels there is no ideal or universal platform anymore.

Thanks for raising valid concerns! The NS EMO survey’s 78% refers specifically to respondents who used X during emergencies not all NS residents. While platform shifts are inevitable, moving away from a tool with such high adoption among active users does create accessibility issues during critical incidents.

Let’s say we generally agree Nova Scotia’s municipal system isn’t working the way people want. Instead of the mayor and councillors suggesting change what if a committee of citizens was appointed to report back within 6 months to the province and municipality with recommendations

@rbatherson Read the questions on the polls. The polls reflect zero alternative or credible opposition. A deeper dive shows in polling significant dissatisfaction on specific issues regardless of overall polling. Of course the PCs will poll highest there is no opposition to speak of.

@AGYounger What "you hear" is not borne out in public opinion data (Abacus & Angus Reid). Of course, what "you hear" can always end up being the case if public opinion changes, which is always possible when the next election is years away.

Of course, it's entirely legitimate for elected municipal councillors to criticize the elected provincial government, but it's simply not credible to claim that the Houston government is acting undemocratically or without the support of HRM voters

@rbatherson I hear how they wish he would focus on healthcare and roads and stay out of municipal stuff which they see as him distracting. And also see him doing many things he never raised during the election. Alienating rural voters.

@rbatherson You’re smart. That’s a silly statement. Houston had no opposition & he ran again Trudeau calling an early election to capitalize. I travel the province non stop and hear constantly in coffee shops & elsewhere how infuriated people are with Houston but see no credible opposition

@rbatherson The premier has lots of prov things to worry about without needing to take on municipal tasks. He seems much more interested in being the Mayor of Halifax than Premier of NS. Municipal councillors won on platforms I’m seeing them stand up for (whether I agree with them or not).

@AGYounger I don't think anybody's mandate should be questioned as illegitimate - the Mayor's, the Councillors' or the MLAs & Houston's government. Ultimately, the people will be able to judge the performance of their respective elected representatives.

@CanadianPolling A group of partisans who don’t understand 1) you don’t do or commission polls; 2) it was never pro Pollievre numbers it was anti-Trudeau & he’s gone; & 3) Pollievre shouldn’t have made his brand about one thing. Maybe he will turn it around. Who knows.

Folks didn't care about this kind of thing when I had projections with the Conservatives at 220+ seats and was posting polls daily that had the Tories 20-points ahead of the Liberals 😮‍💨

@rapaport1010 I don’t. John Cleese directly posted the video clip. Not sure what it’s from originally.

Maybe the US should do something about the fentanyl coming into Canada from the US.
