Today, on Martin Luther King Jr. Day, we reflect on the fact that the journey of our democracy is difficult and ongoing – and the distance is short between peril and possibility. But we must keep it going. Our march toward a more perfect union continues.

@RachelBitecofer Don't get me started. I'm sooooo annoyed. I didn't want my kid to be indoctrinated by two all beef patties, special sauce, lettuce, cheese, pickles, onions on a sesame seed bun.

#Democracy requires diligence, which requires education as to how to achieve equality, equity and freedom for all. I am grateful today for the investment into #education that I've been given. Now, it's my turn to fight for the education of the next generations. #PublicEducation

This is the final page from my book Find The Helpers. I have been thinking a lot about this message and what to do next. The election was our moment, but what we do next matters more. For me, going forward will include a lot more kindness and gratitude. With that I am thankful for all of you. Happy Thanksgiving!!!

Watching MontCo County Board Meeting on the election. Someone called @NeilMakhija an "Election Denier" because of trying to COUNT votes. At the risk of being too Princess Bride on this, "I don't think that means what they think it means." #Election2024

@ramit I use one. Get nice points. The only drawback, which isn't really one, is that my 'available' credit isn't very high. So since my % of 'available credit' is impacted (due to having only one card) and my credit score goes down.

This is the correct move! Never sign up for a retailer credit card (Old Navy, Kohl's, Macy's, etc). They are some of the worst cards out there No reason to feel guilty, either. Always remember: "My money is good money"
Melody Wright@m3_melody

After years of feeling shamed every time I said "no thank you" to the cashier at Macy's offering a cc when I tried to make a purchase using something other than a Macy's card, I now say to any retailer cashier that is forced to offer me a store card: Just say 🚫 to debt slavery

@ramit You had me at 'deregulation'. Seeing as you are ON @netflix do you watch other shows on there? The "Buy Now: The shopping conspiracy" one that just was added was particularly scary. And in many ways is impacted by peoples' "rich lives" and the choices they make.

Writing a book on unhappiness should be an easy task for the average American, who excels at making choices that actively make them unhappy while believing they are doing the right thing: - Believing, above all, that their lives are better in an individualistic society. The more they forsake community, the more unhappy they are, leading them to resort to even more hyper-individualism. For example... - Moving far away from friends & family to pursue the "American dream" of buying a house, which involves a long commute, non-walkable neighborhood, & no family support to raise a family. The result: lonely, overweight, and stressed out -- but at least they own some land! - Voting for deregulation, which means they're actively targeted by bullshit fitness & investment schemes (which they actively fall for), including poor healthcare options. Anything else would be communism! - Spending more time deciding on an In-N-Out order than doing diligent for the biggest purchases of their lives (college, buying a car, buying a house, retirement). This is the result of poor education as well as predatory structures that treat the average American like chum - Dismissing other countries that excel in certain areas (public transportation, healthcare, education) because Americans have a massive case of NIH Syndrome - Minimizing the amazing effect of immigration on America and now, actively demonizing immigrants, which will cascade through our country for decades to come
Auren Hoffman@auren

so I'm gonna write a book called "How to be Unhappy" with specific advice on how to guarantee a life of misery and unhappiness. what advice would you have for people that want to be unhappy? (besides to spend more time on social media)

Al Gore
Al Gore@algore·
My statement on the outcome of #COP29: While the agreement reached at COP29 avoids immediate failure, it is far from a success. On the key issues like climate finance and the transition away from fossil fuels, this is — yet again — the bare minimum. We cannot continue to rely on last-minute half measures. Leaders today shirk their responsibility by focusing on long-term, aspirational goals that extend far beyond their own terms in office. To meet the challenge of our time, we need real action at the scale of months and years, not decades and quarter-centuries. This experience in Baku illuminates deeper flaws in the COP process, including the outsized influence of fossil fuel interests that has hobbled this process since its inception. The Kingdom of Saudi Arabia has been particularly obstructive. Putting the future of humanity at severe risk in order to make more money is truly disgraceful behavior. Reforming this process so that the polluters are not in effective control must be a priority. On climate finance, our primary task in the coming years must be to not only fulfill and build upon the financial commitments agreed to at COP29, but to unleash even larger flows of affordable and fair private capital for developing countries. Ultimately, coming out of COP29, we must transform disappointment into determination. We can solve the climate crisis. Whether we do so in time to meet the goals of the Paris Agreement will depend on what comes next.
