I have consistently warned about the risk of repeat offenders and our revolving door mental health crisis which is a direct result of a lack of acute, secure behavioral health infrastructure. This terrifying image is a tragic illustration of this dangerous reality. Innocent victims constantly pay for the inaction of politicians. Nebraska MUST identify solutions which keep the dangerously mentally ill AWAY from innocent people. Meanwhile, Douglas County government is currently sitting on an empty, secure, brand new 64 bed “juvenile facility” at a cost of $20,000+ a month simply to maintain the vacant space. With appropriate steps, this valuable facility could be repurposed into a secure mental health facility, among many other possibilities, to KEEP PEOPLE SAFE. It’s time for Federal, State and local leaders to WORK TOGETHER to find real SOLUTIONS.

Chief Deputy Niemack and I were 10 minutes away from this morning’s Dallas ICE Facility sniper murders. We, along with most other major Sheriffs in the US, were preparing to meet with the FBI Director at time of the shooting. Pray for the innocent ICE detainee shooting victims and their families. Pray for our law enforcment officers - and especially our targeted ICE Agents - as we navigate these chaotic times. Pray for our nation. Regardless of what side it comes from, these politically motivated assassinations MUST STOP. The Chief Deputy and I are more committed than ever to proactively protecting innocent people in our community and aggressively pursuing those who would do them harm, BEFORE they strike. The DCSO continues to enforce street racing activity, and sometimes deputies don’t have to go far to do it. On Friday night, an Audi and a GMC Sierra were stopped next to each other at the red light at 156th & West Maple Road. The vehicles were both revving so loud they didn’t notice a patrol deputy pull up behind them. When the light turned green, the world’s shortest drag race ended with the driver of the GMC, 22 year-old Jaden Porter, in cuffs, and the driver of the Audi soon to be identified. Did you know that Nebraska just passed a new law increasing penalties on dangerous drivers? Speeding fines will increase and officers will have more leeway to charge drivers for reckless driving.

Responsible gun owners (who don’t want to be shot with their own guns) exercise proper weapons retention. 👉🏽Keep it holstered. 👉🏽Keep it concealed. 👉🏽Train often.

@IamNotH52498667 @DCSheriffNE I hear you. We will have CAT deploy the radar trailer in that area as soon as the CWS is done. It is being used for traffic control right now.

@AHansonSheriff @DCSheriffNE With all due respect. They run radar on center 8am Sunday. I have never seen a radar until at 192nd an U south to Harrison. They literally due 100 down two lane 192. Just time before somebody crashes into my backyard.

@DCSheriffNE Not really. Called and complained about racing 192nd Q to Harrison. NEVER setup radar. I decided to cal State Patrol since you won’t do it!!!
