A historic election! We are excited for what the future holds! This election cycle we fought for and elected 5 former teachers to the @AustinISD school board, 3 of which are former @EdAustin_TX members #ElectATeacher #WeRememberWeVote @TexasAFT @txstateteachers

The board voted ended up voting early this morning at about 3 AM and elected Arati Singh as president, Kevin Foster as vice president, and Lynn Boswell as secretary. @aratisingh @FosterintheAtx @LYNNforAISD

Tonight we saw 4 new board members sworn in and 1 board members re-sworn in! What followed was public testimony about the officer elections. We heard from teacher @holamsjohnston, bus driver Rae Hudson, and teacher David De Leon speaking in support of @aratisingh for president!

Education Austin's Statement On The Selection Of Dr. Mays As The Interim Superintendent: 🧵 1/7

After 6 hours in executive session, the board reconvenes at 12:45 AM. Trustee Foster (@FosterintheAtx) moves to select Dr. Anthony Mays as interim superintendent. The vote passes 7-0-2 with Trustee Singh (@aratisingh) and Trustee Boswell (@LYNNforAISD) abstaining from the vote.

Rodriguez: If we feel we are ready to move forward with an action, we will return from executive session and take action. The board now moves to executive session.

.@AustinISD also confirms Dr. Anthony Mays, Chief Officer of Schools for AISD, and David Kauffman, former Executive Director for Multilingual Education for AISD, are two of the unknown number of superintendent applicants. @KVUE
