13 April 1994 Second night of Inkotanyi soldiers at the top of Mount Rebero, which overlooks Kigali. The genocidal government, which was based at the Diplomat Hotel, fled to Murambi in Gitarama. RPA soldiers from the Alpha Mobile Force and the 3rd Battalion at Rebero faced heavy attacks from selected FAR battalions, including the 73rd and Muvumba battalions. These units were composed of well-trained and selected soldiers mainly from Gisenyi and Ruhengeri. They were promised a bonus upon dislodging the RPA, which became impossible. For Gen. Bizimungu, losing Rebero meant losing Kigali.
