Daniel Buck, “Youngest Old Man in Ed Reform”
I cannot get enough of the research on classroom seating arrangements It's just a prime example of how progressive, "student-centered" education promises much but ultimately fails When desks move from groups to rows, on task behavior DOUBLED Conversely, rates of disrupted TRIPLED when desks were placed in groups

We continue to bemoan 1/3 students graded below 4 in Eng Lang when a. grade boundaries are set for that approx proportion b. Eng Lang GCSE is a poor exam that doesn't test competence in use of lang in a meaningful way c. marking is erratic, so the results aren't even reliable.
Dr James Shea@englishspecial

33% of GCSEs not graded at level 4 or above. Let’s not kid ourselves. It’s the system not the schools, teachers or kids.

As Y9 are SO engrossed in The Great Gatsby, I took the opportunity to introduce them to the notion of a dramatic vehicle/symbolism: encouraging that, actually, this is not a novella of drama - rather a nod to much bigger societal issues perpetuated through patriarchal capitalism.

Experiences of exam marking this year continue to be beyond awful. Middle and senior leaders will need to brace themselves for a record number of reviews of marking, because the standard is going to be shocking

Always a bit strange to be ‘interviewed’ but it’s useful to try and share the ‘why’ of @STOC_CAT and what we are seeking to achieve. #MakingLivesBetter

@Strickomaster In English, you can often tell if a teacher’s actually read the book they’re teaching, no matter how they teach it.

I love being a teacher but giving English teachers 10 days (while teaching all day and on top of other responsibilities) to mark 56 literature essays all between 2-3 sides of A4 each is actually irresponsible.

@HeroicMrT I just feel for the student! All that emotional trauma, over analysis and questioning of themselves for it to just be human error! It’s such a flawed system where no one wins…
