Ajit Menon to step down as the CEO, of PGIM Mutual Fund. He retires at 55. "This is what I had been planning to do for a long time; retire at 55. My financial planning has been geared towards this goal, among others, for quite some time, as we had been meticulously planning for it. Also, unless we step down at this age, the young people do not get a chance to move up", he said to me a short while ago. @cafemutual was the first to break this news. By the way, @AMajitmenon retiring at 55, and planning for it in advance with his financial advisor, is a good example of why financial advisors help. "I'm hanging up my boots, not my gloves," Menon said to me. Abhishek Tiwari, who is currently PGIM India MF's Chief Business Officer, will take over as the CEO. Menon has been one of the most stellar, upright mutual fund personnel in the industry and one I've looked up to, always. One of the few senior people in the Indian MF industry who leaves behind a long trail of capable people, all trained and worked under him at some point, now in responsible and leadership positions elsewhere. Menon will remain with PGIM MF as an advisor till 31 March 2026.

It seems like yesterday, but 24 years have passed, since I joined my first job after post-graduation, at Outlook Money, India's first personal finance magazine. My first senior to whom I reported briefly had asked me and my college batchmate (both of us were recruited from our campus) what we’d like to cover; equities or mutual funds. I chose mutual funds, my batchmate-turned-colleague chose equities. I had heard the word ‘mutual fund’ for the first time ever just four months prior to that day, due to a college project I had worked on. I am so glad I made that choice. That was also my first job in journalism; a profession where I would have completed 24 years today, had it not been for a brief, 6-month stint, at a bank in 2005.
