“I have found that the left has often had a problem with prioritizing what race means and usually just goes to class. That’s just been a spot where there has been struggle, and that struggle continues,” @JumaaneWilliams tells @JeffCMays. Lot of good insights in this piece.

“I hate this narrative around this mayor not being a mayor for Black people. The last mayor was Black and he didn’t do crap on deed theft,” @OsseChi says of @NYCMayor vs @ericadamsfornyc: nytimes.com/2026/05/17/nyr… via @NYTimes

NEW: Jack Schlossberg has built his campaign around turning the page on the Democrats’ old guard. Yet when he debuts his first paid advertisement Wednesday, the 33-year-old has chosen his party’s oldest living leader, Nancy Pelosi, to do the talking. nytimes.com/2026/04/29/nyr…

@politico The author should apply the same level of scrutiny to political operatives of different ideologies and people so easy to dismiss this as a nonstory better start treating everyone with the same lenience cuz y'all would've been on his neck if he weren't from the left or your friend

Punchbowl News: Dorothy McAuliffe is likely to launch a bid for Virginia’s open 7th congressional district, per sources familiar with her plans. McAuliffe, the wife of former Democratic Gov. Terry McAuliffe, has been calling Democrats in DC and Virginia to apprise them of her plans. This would set her on a collision course with state Rep. Dan Helmer in the Democratic primary. Link to article: punchbowl.news/article/campai…

NEWS: Jerry Nadler is backing Micah Lasher, a former aide in his mold, in the crowded race to succeed him. The pick puts him at odds — perhaps one last time — with Nancy Pelosi, who endorsed Jack Schlossberg over the weekend nytimes.com/2026/02/09/nyr…

@_rebeccaclewis She could've made those offers with the expectation that they'd decline. The important thing is for certain interest groups to hear about it and know she's made the effort, especially when the final pick isn't from their group.

New from me: I am told the public Velázquez/Mamdani split isn't simply because he endorsed against her preferred candidate. Per CUFFH' Rob Solano, she wanted to discuss her seat and find common ground on a candidate before endorsements. He said no. Only in First Read!

@skrichev13 Not surprising she's splitting with the mayor which is inevitable and necessary for her brand, more surprising she's publicly endorsing against Lander given how much show she put on during the ICE arrest saga and the fact that they've worked together longer and have been amicable

INBOX: Following his reelection launch this AM, Dan Goldman says Gov. Hochul has endorsed him as he faces a strong challenge in Brad Lander. While not shocking that the more moderate guv would prefer Goldman over Lander, it’s surprising she’s publicly splitting w the mayor

This doubles as an escape hatch to avoid facing a (difficult) caucus vote against Schatz, for whip and eventually leader And it has surely crossed her mind that she could be in better VP contention as a Midwestern gov than just another senator …

KLOBUCHAR LIKELY TO RUN: A source close to Senator Amy Klobuchar tells me this morning “in the event Governor Walz decides not to run” she will likely run for governor, saying she is “getting outreach from people encouraging her to run, and is seriously considering it." @kstp

I'm genuinely shocked by this expectation that a politician would only support unionized labor if the unions endorsed him. Is the assumption just that no one has any actual ideological commitments and politics is purely transactional? nymag.com/intelligencer/…

@EricMGarcia She's still the same person, just more opportunities to contrast herself against bad people, both dem and rep, thus defining herself. But good on her for seizing those opportunities.

Has any Democrat in the nation seen their change as much as Kathy Hochul? At the DNC when nobody clapped for her and Pelosi blamed her for losing the House. Now, she's battled Trump, got goodwill from the left after endorsing Mamdani and her main opponent Stefanik tapped out.

Parkland shooting survivor Cameron Kasky has launched a bid for Rep. Jerry Nadler’s (D-NY) seat, joining the likes of Jack Schlossberg in a crowded Democratic primary. Kasky, 25 years old, calls the field of candidates “rather intimidating,” noting the “big money” he’s up against. “I think that our political system is rigged in a very negative way, where the people who have access to more financial resources are always going to have an easier time winning races,” he tells CBS News’ Major Garrett.

@RossBarkan Lander covers most of Goldman's base but with additional appeal to the left. Latimer and Bowman had very different bases and there were simply more people for Latimer in the district. NY16 was won through antagonism but it probably takes more persuasion in NY10.

@demsocsean Not that complicated. Many Goldman endorsers and voters would've preferred Lander in 2022. Lots of overlaps in their bases.
