The bricks were teal and ornate from the five points intersection in Mansfield. The end of an era as the parking garage turned into a clinic. She gave me one brick which I keep on a bookshelf to this day.

The shop shared a parking lot with a dive bar and one evening as I arrived home from work, I saw a friend digging through her car. I asked what she was doing and she opened the trunk which was full of bricks from a demolished parking garage.

In 2015? I rented an apartment above a family business that made denture molds and false teeth. After a cockroach scare she asked me to sprinkle “diabetes earth” (diatomaceous earth) around the building.

Within the first month, my apartment was filled with cockroaches. They moved into my microwave which I wound up throwing from my second floor porch.

I mean, teeth everywhere. Fake or at least real enough to feel like the real thing.
