UK Parliament's cross-party group championing global nature conservation, biodiversity, and environmental protection. #APPG #Conservation

🌍 Yesterday in #London, the WJC participated in a joint briefing to the @APPGIntlCons & @APPGAntiCorrupt at the UK Parliament, exploring the intersection of environmental crime and corruption. The briefing “How Dirty Money is Destroying the Planet”, was convened by @BarryGardiner and @josephpowell and explored the intersection of environmental crime and corruption, and actions to be taken. As chair of the @uncaccoalition Working Group on Environmental Crime and Corruption, we stressed the urgency of tackling #corruption that fuels crimes that affect the environment (CAE) - including #wildlifetrafficking – and its impacts on climate mitigation and adaption efforts. Ahead of the 11th UN Convention Against Corruption (UNCAC) Conference of the State Parties this December, we urge States Parties to adopt a strong resolution ensuring that the UNCAC is fully leveraged to prevent, detect, and sanction corruption that facilitates CAE and climate harm. ➡️ There can be no effective environmental protection or climate action without confronting corruption head-on. 🙏Thank you to the APPG Chairs, UK Parliamentarians and ICCF Group/ICCF UK for hosting this important discussion, and to @TRAFFIC_WLTrade , @savetherhino & @geckoproj for their great insights.
