Sir John Major makes the essential point. Parents who send children to private school save the state money.
Labour’s tax on them has failed. Now the state has 2,000 fewer teachers than when Conservatives left office.
So we will reverse this futile, vindictive policy.

Well said Gyles. There are many other programmes that should be cut before this one. I mostly listen to @BBCRadio3 and 4 and would love to have Saturday Live axed. Plus all the dismal “lifestyle” programmes.

Yes, the BBC has to live within its means but if being a public service broadcaster is central to its mission The World Tonight is not the programme to cut. It takes a world view & intelligently & has been a nightly briefing for people like me since I discovered it at university.
