I had recently found out a friend of 3 years died… (also why I skipped last week’s videos) …And I immediately understood all sorts of things I’ve heard people say before. “I can’t believe they’re gone” No like literally, my brain has a mini spaz trying to comprehend their non-existence every single time I remember them. The subconscious refuses to believe it so every time is a shock. The first few days almost felt like I was in a parallel universe, the “wrong” one where they didn’t exist. Or like a simulation. Because “surely this can’t be real.” Found several reddit threads saying something similar. Apparently it’s called derealization. It felt like the stephen king movie The Langoliers where the people are stuck out of phase with time, literally “left in the past”, where the world is completely empty. Anyway that feeling has subsided but the “wtf they’re actually gone” shock just, apparently never goes away? At least according to some people. It’s truly its own category of pain you can’t understand until you go through it. Definitely makes you rethink what really matters. I could easily see how some people would get sucked into a black hole of nihilism forever from it. And I wouldn’t even blame them. I think I’ve fortunately avoided that fate. But I’ve probably got a permanent +1 to pessimism on my character sheet.
