I used to stare with wistful longing at the beautiful women running in the city in the early morning, with their hair slicked back and the sun beaming down on them. They seemed so gorgeous in their regal and focused discipline, and I could only envy them as if I was looking at an impossible desire across a chasm I could not cross. They were beautiful. They were disciplined. I was not. That was all there was to it. It was a law as immutable as gravity. Until one day, I realized that was ridiculous. I could get up early and run. I could slick my hair back and wear a nice outfit. I could become someone who was proud of the way they moved through the world. I'd always been able to. The prison of my ugly being was self imposed.

The saddest people i know are not the ones who took a risk and failed. they at least have something to tell you about on a thursday night. the saddest people i know are the ones who got the safe version of everything. and there is this specific thing they all do. they ask you about your life with too much interest. they ask too many questions. they lean in when you tell them about something stupid you did. and you can see it in their eyes, they wanted to be in that sentence, but they chose to watch

When I was jaded, angry, and 15, a very important figure in my life told me that despite my experiences, the world is overflowing with a goodness that would magically find me one day. Possibly the most useless adage to impart on a despondent 15 year old, but at 25 I can’t think of a truer statement.

what the fuck is happening in the UK?! an 18yo kid was stabbed four times by a fellow british* man "Vikrum Digwa" who was openly carrying an 8 inch blade in public (which is illegal in the UK, but under the new racial laws only one ethnic group is allowed to do) chased down when he tried to escape, stabbed again, but since the gentleman claimed henry did one of the worst crimes one can commit in the west, doing a racism, the police put the bleeding kid in handcuffs and let him die on the pavement what the fuck?!

One of the most distinct markers of actual undergraduate writing: the unspecified pronoun. Even the best writers do this at least once in every essay.

Among elite chess players, those with the lowest IQ are the best. Among NBA players, the shortest ones are the best. Among Hollywood actors, the least attractive are the most talented. Among elite academics, those with poorer early academic performance are the best. Among people with high LDL & high plaque burden, LDL is barely correlated with plaque burden. Learn collider bias. Nice catch by @AlexTISYoung

Isn't this a collider bias phenomenon? If becoming an elite chess kid is due to some combination of IQ and chess skill not explained by IQ, then we'd expect a negative correlation between IQ and chess skill in the elite subsample.

underrated aspect of British decline is the talent problem. early Global Britain still had imperial-trained politicians. Post-Blair Tories a basket of English incompetents. Labour Right even worse. Can't possibly imagine how fast a hypothetical Reform government will shit the bed

Passed a man whose shirt read "I found love in Niles, Illinois." My heart lept. Romance had triumphed yet again. I turn, and see plastered across the back "And it was only 200 bucks!" Ah. Nothing but a cruel mockery. This bitter cynicism will save no one.
