@diharagirimana If money is not an issue, then drip any day, any time. We are talking about water use efficiency, delivering water directly to the roots, preventing dumpness that leads ot fungal infections, fertigation, etc

@Agronomme_ We really need a serious conversation on this matter. A lot of theories revolving around GMO have increased fear among people.v The benefits are there, but information related to its dangers is quite hidden.

GMO experts say they can increase agricultural productivity and contribute to food security… But many of us still avoid them—why? What are the concerns or potential downsides of GMOs? 🤔

@Fredmunene_ The problem we have in Africa is poor governance leading to a lack of political willingness. Look at what Israel is doing in desert. African governments despise Agriculture but ride on the efforts of smallholder farmers who contribute immensely to the economy.

During my farm visit to Ukraine 🇺🇦 , I observed several agricultural practices that could be beneficial for Africa. Despite having ample land and a large workforce, many African countries struggle with food insecurity. Ukraine’s agricultural success is a testament to the potential of modern farming techniques. By adopting Ukrainian agricultural technologies, Africa could significantly improve its food production capabilities and address the pressing issue of hunger. Ukrainian farmers' success stems from a combination of factors, including: Skilled workforce: Ukrainian farmers have a deep understanding of their land. This knowledge and experience are passed down through generations, ensuring a skilled agricultural workforce. Modernization: Despite the challenges, many Ukrainian farms have adopted modern machinery and technology, which has increased efficiency and productivity. Adoption of technology: Precision agriculture techniques like GPS-guided equipment and data analysis are being used to optimize crop yields and resource use. Focus on cash crops: Ukrainian agriculture has shifted towards corn, sunflower seeds, and rapeseed, which are in high demand for export. This focus on cash crops allows farmers to generate significant income. Mama Africa has to take notes from Ukraine 🇺🇦 to able to feed her children. #LetsGrowTogether #AgriTechTuesday

@EnyonamManye This is what I tell farmers too. Produce for the market, not for the season. Producing for the markets bores consistency, which leads to customer loyalty, which then equates to income all time.

You grow good food… but they still reject you. WHY? Because hotels & supermarkets are not just buying food — they are buying: ✔️ Consistency ✔️ Cleanliness ✔️ Packaging ✔️ Reliability No label. No proper sorting. No standard size. No deal. Brooo 😩 some farmers will harvest today and disappear for 2 weeks… how do you expect a hotel to depend on you? If you really want big buyers, you must farm like a BUSINESS, not just survival. Watch this video before you lose your next big opportunity 👇

@pascha_01 @Fredmunene_ Look for Dynamec or Emmaron 30 SC. Should be used 21 days after sowing. You can also ask the shop to give you any that works best if they do not have those ones: NB: Over-reliance on chemicals increases pest resistance. You can switch to mass trapping afterwards.

I don’t understand when someone says they have no market for Kienyeji their chicken. You are your and you should be first market….. How do you buy meat and bread at home, yet you keep chicken and eggs on the farm with no use. That does not add up. Start with your household. Eat your eggs. Slaughter your birds. Replace what you buy from outside. Kienyeji chicken is not watermelon. It does not spoil in a day. Manage your flock, sell in batches, and build steady demand.

@Fredmunene_ And when you do that, take the money you would have used for meat or eggs to buy some pullets or cockerels. A typical case of eat one replace with two.

@ivymuthe There are strict regulations around this tree species. For example, it’s not allowed on plots smaller than a quarter acre or in areas with less than 400 mm of rainfall annually. He should talk to the owner and reach an agreement. Otherwise, kuna kesi hapa.

@ckositany So, that's your definition of food security? What about other factors like accessibility (logistics) and affordability? You should be saying "route to abundant harvest"

@kupal_robinson We call it PHI (post-harvest interval), the minimum number of days a farmer should wait before harvesting the crop after spraying chemicals. 14 days is quite good, but others can be harvested even after 3 days or 7 days. The farmer must always read the instructions label well

@Agronomme_ The rains/ water, washes and neutralize the strong effect of the chemicals. That's why any crop that is being treated shouldn't be eaten within 14 days. And this same tip applies to livestock

Let’s have this conversation 😂 We wear masks and protective gear when spraying chemicals to protect ourselves… but later we still eat the same crops. So what are we really protecting… our bodies or just the moment of exposure? If chemicals are dangerous enough to require protection during application, then how safe are they when they end up on our food?

@aprokofarmer No, we cannot rule out he is a total failure. He is just in the wrong profession and probably because he was misadvised. Advise him about soil test first before planting, understanding the market and employing an agronomist.

Someone in a group is asking for the best crop he could plant this raining season as rain has started destroying the watermelon he has on the farm and also complained of not having good yield from the pepper he has done in the past and someone asked him... Threads:

@sholard_mancity @richardmiruka96 It revolves around crop damage, transport challenges to the market, reduced quality due to ripening issues. Most importantly, increased production costs from fungal infections (dampness accelerates fungal infection)

Wait, since when did one tomato become KSh20 in Kenya? Is Kenya experiencing a tomato shortage, or is this just happening in a few places? In some places, tomatoes are now going for KSh10-20 each. That may sound small, until you remember that tomatoes are a basic ingredient in many Kenyan meals. What doesn’t add up is that East Africa has had good rains, so supply should be stable. Yet prices keep rising. Something in Kenya’s supply chain is clearly not adding up. And that’s part of the problem in Kenya, when basic food prices suddenly spike, most citizens don’t even know which office or authority is supposed to step in.
