The Covid Inquiry's procurement report is out. It concluded that the Government was "wholly unprepared". But where its internal machinery failed, the private sector delivered. UK is winning the AI capital race, but losing the buildout. Despite attracting almost as much AI venture capital in 2025 as the entire EU27 combined, a new OECD report shows growth in AI talent hiring in the UK now sits at the EU median, and is being rapidly outpaced by Canada and the US. Today, a 500MW data centre here costs around £900m a year, four times the US.
