Recipient of the Superintendent Apple Award for September 2025 is Timothy Cantú! "People say, if you want something done, ask the busiest person you know. That is certainly true of this month’s Superintendent’s Apple Award recipient. His impact on Seguin ISD is undeniable. As one colleague shared, “He shows us the importance of giving back to his school and community and reminds us that we are better when we share our time with others.” This Matador generously gives his time to capture the excitement, spirit, and memories of our school and district events, reminding us what Matador Nation looks like in action. As a dedicated member of the Seguin High School staff and the Career and Technology Education department, he helps students earn Adobe certifications and grow skills in graphic design, photography, and video production through MatCast. He co-advises our Business Professionals of America chapter and, beyond the classroom, teaches the value of connection, inclusion, and respect through the “Meet in the Middle” program. This is Matador Nation at its best. We believe exceptional students become exceptional citizens, and his work cultivates, inspires, and empowers our learners every day. I am proud to recognize an educator who has devoted nearly 20 years to serving students, with more than five years here in Seguin. He is a Texas A&M–Kingsville graduate, a husband and father, and a U.S. Marine veteran who served our country for eight years. His life of service reflects the heart of Matador Nation. #MatadorNation

DITV Spotlight Ian Box @Ianbox9 Defensive End | #9 Seguin, TX | Seguin High School alum @Seguin_Football Seguin, Texas — known as the “Pecan Capital of Texas” and home to the world’s largest pecan — built Ian Box tough. From Friday nights under Coach Travis Bush at Seguin High to reuniting with him in the Valley, Box brings that same rugged edge with him to UTRGV. At Seguin, Box was more than just a standout — he was a force. He stacked up 165 tackles, with 55.5 for loss and 20.5 sacks across three varsity seasons. That dominance earned him District 12-5A Defensive MVP honors and a spot on the KSAT Elite 12 list, cementing his reputation as one of Central Texas’ most feared defenders. After redshirting and battling injury at Lamar, Box made history as the first transfer in UTRGV football program history — a trailblazer setting the path for others to follow into the Valley. Seguin High School has long produced competitors across sports. Former NFL defensive end Ernest “Big Cat” Jones spent 10 years in the league after his days as a Matador. The school has turned out multiple state track and field medalists, standout basketball players, and baseball talent like Marion McClure, who pitched professionally in the minor leagues. That tradition of toughness and athletic success runs deep in Seguin. Now, Ian Box is ready to carry that Seguin legacy into the 956. He’s #9 on the roster, but he’s looking to be #1 in disruption — a defensive end built to put offenses on the pit and serve them up smoked. The Valley is about to find out just how much bite this dawg has. #UTRGVditv #WinToday #rallythevalley #Southlandstrong
