Gorilla Grams: Episode 20 🦍 At Congo Falls, enrichment is always evolving! For this special enrichment, Animal Care Specialists created “veggie burgers” out of primate biscuits, complete with tomatoes, lettuce, and a slice of bread. They also made fries out of dried apple slices. Of course, no burger meal is complete without ketchup and mustard! Creating novel enrichment experiences designed to spark curiosity and encourage natural behaviors. By introducing new challenges, textures, scents, and enrichment objects, we help promote problem-solving, foraging, exploration, and social interaction. Novel enrichment is important because it keeps experiences fresh and engaging — supporting cognitive stimulation, physical activity, and overall well-being. Each new opportunity gives the gorillas the chance to make choices, stay active, and interact with their environment in meaningful ways.
