@mdahmus You’re confusing CapMetro and the Austin Transit Partnership. Only ATP is authorized to build light rail. Meanwhile, ATP still needs to get the Record of Decision (read: money) from the Federal Transit Administration. So: chill.

@juliogatx This is a little out of context. Can you also show: 1) capital investment budget/year? 2) ridership/year? CapMetro has made recent investments in Rail (stations/sidings), Rapid (stations/all-electric) & Pickup (routes) since COVID, which skews this data.

CapMetro hasn’t put up it’s long-term service efficiency in an official chart. Here I piece it together across info from their past budgets and Board presentations. It makes it easy to see the increase in cost per passenger overall & cost per bus passenger. We can fix this.

It's a lot easier to rip out bus "infrastructure" than it is to take out train tracks, which is why the smarter anti-transit people concern-troll your rail projects and claim they just want rapid buses and aren't against transit in general of course.

@schizacyrium i'll also add that most anti cycling folks somehow think that cycling is worthless if you can't do it 100% of the time. if i take even 50% or 25% of my single car trips off the road, that's a huge W.

@mdahmus Keep in mind that TDM is more than buses and trains. It’s also carpool, vanpool, telework, biking, shuttles…. @Movability

TDM is a waste of time for most companies. My new office doesn't even have monthly discounts on parking; the parking is run separately; it's $12/day; and it's still hard to argue for taking the bus for any of the people who already work here because the bus is so uncompetitive

Not every road must be a tramway. Not every road must be a bikeway.

Two way is mainly an issue with lots of driveways and Cross Street car traffic. Even as a cyclist, I think rail needs to be the main priority.

Austin’s 2022 plans to make Nueces Street a two-way road are on hold. “At this time, the implementation date for this project has been deferred while the City coordinates with Project Connect on a final design,” city spokesperson Cristal Corrales said. kut.org/transportation…
