Our Head of Secretariat Amb. @WilCarew outlined 3️⃣ practical priorities for students: 1️⃣Understand key frameworks such as the African Charter on Democracy, Elections and Governance (#ACDEG) and national constitutional processes. 2️⃣Organize constructively, ensuring that civic engagement is informed, disciplined, and solution-oriented. 3️⃣Protect democratic space by promoting respectful dialogue and unity across differences. He reminded participants that Sierra Leone’s #democracy will continue to be strengthened not only through institutions, but through active citizenship in universities, communities, and public discourse. Amb. @WilCarew (Head of the ECOSOCC Secretariat) placed strong emphasis on the role of young people, noting that nearly 7️⃣0️⃣% of Sierra Leone’s population is under 3️⃣5️⃣. This makes #youth participation central to the country’s democratic journey. He encouraged students to see themselves not as observers, but as contributors to public life through informed, organized, and peaceful #civicengagement. #Democracy, he stressed, extends beyond #elections to include accountability, participation, respect for institutions, and the protection of civic space.
