@AXwain Mario Wonder Bellabel Park DLC! It’s the time challenge in the lava level and it’s suuuper hard. I did watch a video but it’s just still so difficult cuz the platforms are so small and moving 😭

@milchspill Don't lose weight too fast or your body will just reduce your muscular mass instead of fat. That's really bad to happen. This is because breaking down muscle tissue for energy is less expensive than breaking down fat. Don't ask me how I learned that 🫠

@ankkala @oxcrowx Homogenization at best, poor execution by the copy at worst damaging the "reputation" of the idea and becoming a laughing stock

@oxcrowx why does it not feel moral to copy good ideas between programming languages? the plus side is that a good idea spreads and many people can benefit from it the negative side is what exactly?

Saying Odin is "only similar" to Jai's syntax, is dishonest. Odin took Jai's implicit context, the "using" subtyping, and other things that Odin says, were developed by them. I said I don't have a view on this, as ideas can not be copyrighted, but doing this doesn't feel moral.

@valigo Why do they not talk about what they make with the tech tho? If they even use it, they must have opinions, experience with pain points, gotchas, and even personal achievements they are proud of. Regarding "political stuff", it can be a turn off when you want just tech talks

I really miss when programming language/editors/frameworks wars were purely technical. Now it's so hard to participate in a good faith, it seems like the majority of discourse is about liking/not liking creators personally, or about politics "in the community". This makes sense, because most people are incompetent and have no way to discuss tech on its merit, but they still want to belong to the discussion, it's just a universal human behavior. It's the same reason why most people discuss pop stars' personal life instead of their music. Still sad though.

Seiran. | VGen Comms Open!@seiranaino

Controversial topic: AI. I think most artists despise AI. This is pretty much clear. But we shouldn’t treat the people who USE AI like they are also slop. They might just be uneducated on how much trouble AI causes. Can we try something like this next time, artists?

@ChShersh I'm rusty with FP. Is it my imagination or is the Haskell example declaring the order of calls in reverse than the C++ example? The C++ seems easier to understand what it is doing 🤔

When I say that C++ is the best FP language, I'm not joking. The combination of Functor and Monadic operations in C++ looks more elegant and uniform than an operator soup in Haskell.

@yacineMTB GraphQL was made to solve a specific problem and it worked wonders for that. The issue is devs trying to force it to work beyond the original scope. Ultimately, for many enterprises it became a tool that doesn't solve technical issues but rather organizational ones

Graphql is genuinely the most retarded idea ever. There used to be an entire career around graphql Honestly the best part about automating programmers is that I don't have to hire people, which means that I don't have to tolerate bad engineering decisions

@fjzeit To my knowledge, those that "protect their own kind" are those that bring a caste system into the jobs. They discriminate against people of the same race just because they weren't born in a "favorable family". It can be detected by what you mentioned in your post tho

ok, here it is. i've seen a lot of posts over the past 48 hours of people complaining that their (mostly technology teams) are disproportionately populated by people from "minority backgrounds". a lot of the posts appear hostile toward those people and propose that these groups are looking after their own kind. it seems like a fair observation at first. you live in a place with a specific demographic you'd expect your team to represent that demographic and not have the majority group in that demographic massively under-represented. well, here's the thing guys. companies generally have to meet quotas to ensure they are not discriminating in their hiring approaches. we all know this. but don't blame the people. your theory that they are looking after their own is very likely false. if you want to find the root cause of the disproportionate representation in your tech team then cast your eyes wider and look at other teams and departments. the team/departments with the least diversity are the root cause. your team is simply making up the numbers so that other teams and departments can discriminate at will. look to the: HR department Senior managers Sales and after-sales Finance department it all balances out. your company is probably a racist/(and other-ist) shithole playing a numbers game.

@richter_h_ Just a heads up: be careful with hosting a website, it can skyrocket in bandwidth usage bills thanks to A-I bots navigating sites. Make sure you block those following some list or guide about it

Guess it's time to actually consider hosting a dedicated website for my artworks. Granted, I upload stuff on Pixiv as well, but I can put as many tidbits as I want without any algorithmic repercussions. The downside? Much less traffic and engagements, but that besides my point.

@zuhaitz_dev Is that a new term for crunch time? And how are these A-I users "coders"? I'll argue they don't see themselves as such and may be product makers instead. A coder wouldn't find fulfillment with A-I doing the heavy work. A product maker will be happy seeing the ideas come to life

@potetm Let's be proud of the output that is streamlined and would be the same regardless of who is doing the job, bc that's fulfilling, am I right? Companies made sure to have high bus factors, and bosses suck dry the souls of people, making them an obedient grey cog in the machine

there is a very real argument to be made that working an assembly line—while tedious and backbreaking, and therefore more undesirable on the whole—is better than insanely high paying tech jobs in this one regard: you can be proud of the output.
