I've seen the "small guard" stuff a lot. Just off the top of my head, these small guards (6'3'' and under) have done just fine in recent years in the NBA:

Donovan Mitchell
Tyrese Maxey

Trae Young
Ja Morant
CJ McCollum
Darius Garland

And of course, Stephen Curry, Chris Paul, Kyle Lowry and Mike Conley who were great players forever. And I know I forgot a bunch of guys too.
Smaller guards can play if they're good enough. You gave two examples of guys who are in their second years, playing a position that is notoriously hard to figure out on the fly. Give they time. Not everyone is awesome by Year 2.

@KeithSmithNBA @TrevorLane I don’t wanna sound like a hater but I feel like we always see small guards in the draft and they either don’t workout or take either a few or multiple years to figure out the league. Like Rob Dillingham or Reed Sheppard. Idk why teams continue to do it still.

Arkansas' Darius Acuff measured 6'2 barefoot and 186 pounds at the NBA Draft Combine, with a 6'7 wingspan and 8'2.5 standing reach. In line with past measurements. Not the biggest or longest guard around, but certainly not any kind of deal-breaker.
