@TyMarshall_MEN Another case of making it up as they go along. The furore after yesterday and that ‘goal’ they say today it shouldn’t have stood but Webb on Mic’d up before Christmas justified a goal being given in similar circumstances - VAR credibility is shot
English

@HACKETTREF Surely he interpreted the laws as decreed by IFAB as it was set out. It was an accidental handball, at no point did he move his hand/arm toward the ball. It’s like subjective offsides. Make all handballs deliberate or not a penalising offence. No grey areas
English

@refsupportuk @ManUtd Agreed. The handball laws are a total mishmash from IFAB, it’s like the subjective offsides, different officials will interpret differently. These ambiguities just leave like a festering wound.
English

On the @ManUtd hand ball, any criticism needs to be aimed at IFAB who can’t help themselves meddling with the laws that refs have to take abuse for the correct interpretation of said laws. 🤷♂️
English

@grassrootsrefJa @Afc_El_ @shirdzz That’s the problem, you say it wasn’t good for the game, but are the ambiguities that we have now good for the game? It’s like subjective offsides - the inconsistencies of interpretation. Personally I feel that VAR a has been to the detriment of on field officiating
English

sorry but do they genuinely change the rule from week to week because as long as i’ve been watching football i’ve been told an attacking handball is penalised REGARDLESS of intent

#MUNNFO – 55’ After VAR review, the referee stuck with the original decision to award a goal to Manchester United. Referee announcement: “After review, the decision of goal stands because the handball offence is accidental, therefore the final decision is goal.”
English

@grassrootsrefJa @Afc_El_ @shirdzz Any touch whether it was liked or not was less complicated than the interpretations we have today.
English

@Afc_El_ @grassrootsrefJa @shirdzz I totally agree that a law change is required. The IFAB law for handball as currently written is a total mishmash. It’s time to make any contact with arm or hand an offence - remove the ambiguous nature of it as it stands.
English

@grassrootsrefJa @shirdzz i see. surely a rule change is needed
English

@jonmikesav8 The best way to remove any doubt is rewrite the law and make any contact with the arm/hand a handball. By the letter of the law as it’s currently written - ludicrous as it may seem, the onfield referee was ‘correct’
English

@HughWoozencroft You can’t blame VAR and you cannot blame the onfield referee either. By the letter of the law (as it’s written) his decision isn’t ‘wrong’ - the issue is the law needs rewritten by IFAB to remove any ambiguity. How about any contact with hand or arm is handball - NO exceptions
English

Can't blame VAR there...
100% an error by the on-field referee.
I can see why he thought it may have been accidentally (touches thigh first) but Mbeumo clearly pins the ball with his arm - that's deliberate handball.
Another one for Webb to apologise for 😆 #MUNNFO
English

@BBCMOTD Just because he thinks it’s ‘footballs expectation’ whatever he’s trying to imply with that - the fact is that the laws of the game (whether you agree or not) were applied - I’ve said it before that the law
for handball is a mishmash. Change the law and remove any ambiguity
English

@forestmad80 @FA_PGMOL Don’t be blaming the referee or the VAR, the handball law is a total mishmash - those who devised it at IFAB have to look at themselves. Time to make the law, if the ball strikes the hand or arm it’s handball - no grey areas - none of this crap we have today.
English

Hideous @FA_PGMOL, one of the worst decisions I’ve ever seen and get this pathetic referee banned.
Utterly ridiculous and scandalous. I’d go so far to see as corrupt!!!
You wonder why casual fans are falling out of love for the game. #NFFC #Premierleague #MUFC
If Mbeumo scored directly from that then we all agree it gets disallowed so the fact that he’s then controlled it and Cunha has scored should make no difference.
Wet wipe of a ref!!!

English

@davidlynchlfc You can argue the rights or wrongs of the handball law, but the incident today by the letter of the law was correct. Not the referees fault, not VAR’s fault - blame those who made the law at IFAB - in my opinion, handball should be handball, deliberate or not - no grey areas
English

@ODonnellDale The problem is Neville is so adamant, I think the laws state if it deflects off another part of the body onto the arm it’s not handball.
