17 years ago today, ‘CORALINE’ released in theaters.

The Wild Robot (2024) looked like a gentle kids movie turned into one of the most emotionally tuned animated films in years, with gorgeous painterly visuals and a story that actually trusts silence, loneliness, and connection.

@AardmanMike I’m in the middle about this. Glad the realistic side & CGI era is back, sort of. Though the 1 is huge & I’m personally not a fan of the Iris on engines’ eyes. My concern is the driver & fireman aren’t in Thomas’s cab. Hope the engines’ crew will appear. At least AEG is gone lol

Britt Allcroft’s Thomas is superior. Thomas looks friendly and the faces reflect artwork from the books. Going against the grain to rebrand the franchise every few years will not work. This design is honouring an era that failed. Let it go and embrace classic Thomas again.

@AardmanMike This is probably the best tweet I've seen today. The new look is very nice, but we all know that classic Thomas isn't going anywhere. Allcroft aesthetic wins every time.

@FrostedMntips Completely agree. I do love that the fans are always producing more quality content! It’s become the norm for some time and was the perfect distraction before Andrew Brenner came along and elevated the original CG era.

@AardmanMike I'm a diehard Britt Era fan myself (cus that's what I grew up with), but even I have to acknowledge that we'll prb never get something like that from the current IP owners ever again.

@Sonic453179 I wish I did work for them! But I completely agree, I’d love to see what they would do with Thomas. Pingu will be in safe hands there. I don’t think Mattel will hand Thomas back over to the U.K. for them to try unfortunately.

@AardmanMike Hi Mike! Hear you work at Aardman? I love Aardman. Wallace and Gromit are the goats. Honestly, a Aardman Thomas show would be fire. I mean, if they’re doing a Pingu series, why not Thomas? Also yeah. I respect your opinion, but me? I think this looks good. It’s ok if you don’t.

@SomeSimsIdiot @TheRedJinty @HenryMexican Cartoon - referring to 2D animation and AEG era. I understand he’s animated of course. Completely agree he needs to evolve, but it’s not working if they’ve now backtracked to 3D animation again. I appreciate them trying, just some questionable design choices used from a bad era.

@AardmanMike @TheRedJinty @HenryMexican Sorry to be the one to tell you this but Thomas is a cartoon character. In all seriousness, TV shows HAVE to adapt. The classic series would not go too well with modern audiences, as children need dynamic stimuli in their media. Completely understand your critique. Just adding.

@HenryMexican I have no problem with the scenery. That’s very nicely put together. It’s Thomas’s strange hybrid design that incorporates the AEG face and BWBA movements that lets it down. It makes the realistic setting pointless if they’re treating the engines like cartoon characters still.

@AardmanMike Let's not be too harsh, it seems to have a little bit of each era; we all hate that AEG face and those chugginton movements, but it shows great promise with that beautiful scenery.
